Summary of This Method

This manual accompanies the student throughout the 4th year of Music Theory by offering a progressive path, organized around key concepts worked on over time. The central idea is to establish solid automatisms through a sufficiently long study period for each chapter: difficulty increases in stages, allowing the teacher to easily plan work over two or even three weeks, depending on the group's level and the course schedule.

The specificity of this approach is to make the instrument a true partner in the Music Theory course, on par with the voice. In practice, the student does not merely "understand": they immediately apply. Melodic or rhythmic memorization, rhythmic readings (with or without note names), and sung readings become more effective when first sung and then played on the instrument. This alternation simultaneously develops the ear, coordination, attack precision, and pitch awareness.

Only note reading is approached in a spoken manner, to target quick recognition and fluent sight-reading. The rest of the work favors a "hear, sing, play" logic that supports progression and gives meaning to solfège: the student understands how concepts translate into their playing, which enhances motivation and consistency.

This design linking theory and instrument is particularly beneficial: it allows continuous progression through instrumental realization of learning (rhythm, reading, memory, listening). However, it requires some adjustments depending on the instrument practiced by the student; the teacher can adapt instructions (articulations, range, positions, breathing) to preserve the musical objective while respecting each instrument's technical constraints.
