An LTD M-400 HT: The "Super-Strat" DNA of the M series, performance-oriented

The LTD M series follows the tradition of "Super-Strat" guitars designed for the stage: easy access to high frets, modern ergonomics, and effective controls. This M-400 HT focuses on what current guitarists seek: a build that withstands tight tunings, active electronics that remain clear under heavy distortion, and a set of sensations designed for fast playing. The choice of a fixed bridge rather than a tremolo aligns with this: more simplicity, more stability, and a very direct attack.

Who is the LTD M-400 HT Scarlet Metallic for? Styles, skill levels, and feel

This 6-string electric guitar primarily targets intermediate to advanced guitarists who want a reliable instrument for loud rehearsals, clean recordings, and hassle-free live performances regarding tuning. The Extra Thin U neck profile and 24 frets favor modern techniques (alternate picking, legato, tapping, sweeping) while remaining comfortable for heavy riffing low on the neck.

In terms of styles, the M-400 HT excels in metal (thrash, death, metalcore, djent), hard rock, and all aesthetics expecting dense yet clear distortion. It also produces firm and defined clean tones, useful for intros, arpeggios, or ambient passages, with a very "hi-fi" response typical of active pickups.

Sound and character: mahogany, roasted neck, and active EMGs for a tight and precise tone

The mahogany body provides a warm and solid sonic foundation, with generous low-mids that add weight to palm mutes and consistency to riffs. Combined with a fixed bridge and string-through design, it delivers a natural sustain feel and notes that "hold" well, particularly pleasant for both lead and rhythm playing.

The bolt-on roasted maple neck promotes a sharper attack and better long-term stability. Roasting also tends to offer a drier and more precise response, ideal for maintaining definition under high gain. The rosewood fingerboard slightly rounds the attack and adds a more musical quality in the highs, balancing a pickup set known for its incisiveness.

The EMG 81 (bridge) / EMG 85 (neck) pair is a benchmark for heavy tones: the EMG 81 delivers cutting rhythms with tight lows and excellent string separation, even in lower tunings. The EMG 85, rounder and thicker, offers singing leads, easy-to-get harmonics, and dense clean sounds. The 3-position selector allows quick switching from sharp to smooth tones, and the presence of 2 volume controls (one per pickup) makes level transitions very practical during playing, complemented by 1 tone control to tame or open the high frequencies depending on the amp and speaker cabinet.

Playability directly contributes to the sound: with a 350 mm / 13.78" radius and Extra Jumbo frets, bends are easy, the vibration is wide, and the fretting hand can remain light, helping maintain clean and enduring playing during long sessions.

Recommended compatible accessories

To stay true to the original spirit, a set of 6-string electric guitar strings in 10-46 gauge fits perfectly (this is the factory-installed gauge). With the active electronics, also plan to carry a spare 9V battery in the case or gig bag. Finally, a good quality standard instrument jack cable is a safe choice to preserve dynamics and reduce interference.
