A "boutique" compressor designed with Mad Professor musicality in mind

The Forest Green Compressor fits within the Mad Professor approach: an analog compression that is refined, musical, and highly usable in real-world conditions (studio, rehearsal, stage). Its spirit is close to "wide band" compressors designed to respect dynamics and definition rather than crushing the signal like a vintage-style, heavily colored compressor. The result: clean level control with a more comfortable playing feel, without losing the instrument's identity.

This "factory" model is assembled in series to reduce the final cost while maintaining a philosophy of high-end components and settings. If you're looking for a guitar/bass compressor pedal that can stay discreet or, on the contrary, deliver very present sustain, the Forest Green is a reliable choice in the range.

Who is the Forest Green Compressor for, and in which styles does it make a difference?

This pedal is suitable both for beginners who want to stabilize their volume and for advanced musicians seeking a responsive and nuanced compressor. It works perfectly for clean and slightly crunchy tones, where compression must highlight the attack without muffling the playing.

In blues, rock, country, and funk, it helps even out string volume differences and keeps rhythm tight. The Sustain mode is especially inspiring for slide playing: the attack remains clear and the note "holds" longer, facilitating singing phrases. For bass, it can provide clean leveling and controlled sustain, useful for fingerstyle and consistent pick lines.

Settings, modes, and operation: simple to adjust, rich to exploit

The Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor focuses on straightforward ergonomics: three potentiometers and a mode selector. The Compressor / Sustain switch truly changes the feel under the fingers: in Compressor mode, the pedal behaves like a classic, precise, and clean compressor; in Sustain mode, it emphasizes note decay and softer parts of the signal while preserving the attack to maintain a very "live playing" feel.

The Compr. knob sets the amount of compression and sustain: at low settings, it mainly acts as a peak limiter (perfect for smoothing without being audible). As you increase it, compression becomes more obvious and touch response gradually softens; at high settings, the output is heavily compressed while retaining clarity, with extremely long sustain.

The Level control is smart: in Compressor mode, it adjusts the overall volume and allows the pedal to be used as a clean booster. In Sustain mode, it no longer controls overall volume but the level of the "sustained" portion, helping to dose note hold without upsetting your overall stage volume balance. Finally, the Tone control adjusts the color of the compressed signal: ideal for keeping bass full or, conversely, tightening an overbearing low end on certain guitars and amps.

Sound

The Forest Green Compressor stands out with clean compression, a "easier" playing feel, and an attack that remains present. It doesn't aim to impose an extreme signature; rather, it emphasizes a sense of stability, sustain, and polish, as if the sound is better "framed." At moderate settings, it can disappear into the mix while making chords more even and arpeggios more consistent.

In Sustain mode, the pedal becomes very inspiring for leads: notes stretch out, dynamics remain pleasant, and the guitar gains comfort without feeling muffled. On a pedalboard, it integrates well both before an overdrive (to push and even out) and after distortion (to smooth slightly), depending on the desired result. Its very low noise level is a real plus when stacking multiple pedals or playing with a sensitive amp.
