A MID EQ designed as the missing link in the "Pultec" family

Inspired by the Pultec MEQ-5 approach, this MID EQ carries the spirit and fundamentals of the "EQP-1A" version from the Enhanced Pultec range, while distinguishing itself with a passive equalization section dedicated to mid frequencies. Where an EQP-1A excels at the spectrum extremes, this processor settles in the center of the mix: it precisely "locks" the mids, the area where intelligibility, presence, and proximity perception are determined. Together, an EQP-1A and this MID EQ offer a coherent and very wide palette, suitable for both recording and mastering.

Intended uses and studio profiles

Particularly comfortable on instruments with pronounced mid content (guitars, vocals, harmonica, violin), this equalizer allows cleaning up nasal zones, advancing presence without harshness, or reshaping the harmonic balance of a take. In mixing, it becomes a sculpting tool to help a track "find its place" without overloading the high end. In mastering, its more selective bell curve and musical behavior make it a preferred ally for finely correcting imbalances while preserving a sense of openness and naturalness.

A more selective passive mid equalization for decisions that can be heard

DIP and PEAK: precision at the heart of the mids

The major difference with an EQP-1A lies in the passive equalization: the DIP and PEAK controls operate with a more selective bell curve. Result: you can target a precise midrange area, reduce an excess without "digging" too wide, or conversely add presence while maintaining control over the contour. This is exactly the type of control that saves time when quick decisions are needed, especially on an already dense vocal or guitar.

Build quality and studio ergonomics

Silent controls (PEAK and SHELF) facilitate adjustments in real situations without annoying artifacts. Greyhill frequency selectors sealed with gold contacts ensure repeatability of settings, essential for recall. On the signal side, the architecture emphasizes a high current output and transformer-balanced XLR symmetry, with wide frequency response and comfortable headroom to integrate into high-end analog chains.

Connectivity adapted to sources and professional chains

The main symmetrical XLR input features a phase inversion switch, useful for quickly managing phase coherence in multi-mic setups or during inserts. A second high-impedance input in 6.35 mm jack format (transformerless) is available to adapt to other configurations. Finally, the BYPASS and AUTO-MUTE power-up delay contribute to smooth rack integration by limiting surprises at startup.
