Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range

The Soleá range is directly inspired by the aesthetics and demands of the modern flamenco cajon: an instrument capable of articulating deep bass while maintaining a sharp and "singing" treble for rim shots. In this line, the string assembly is done by hand in the spirit of master luthier José "Pepote" Hernández Diaz, a nod to the Spanish artisanal craftsmanship that shaped the cajon's sound as it is heard today on stage. Available in Espresso Burst, Ebony Burst, and Dark Red Burst finishes, Soleá positions itself as a series that is elegant, expressive, and clearly performance-oriented.

Who This Cajon Is For

The Soleá Ebony Burst is aimed at intermediate to advanced musicians seeking a responsive cajon capable of shifting from subtle finger playing to more forceful hand strikes without losing definition. Its pre-tuned string response is particularly suited to styles where articulation is essential: flamenco, acoustic pop, fusion, Latin music, variety, and vocal-guitar accompaniment. Thanks to the reinforced bass, it also works very well in "unplugged" settings or with light amplification when a solid low end under the groove is desired.

Features and Innovations

This cajon incorporates two sets of four pre-tuned micro-wound metal strings installed inside the playing surface to generate a precise "snare" effect that is more homogeneous and easier to control than an overly intrusive timbre. The internal Bass reflex system is designed to support low frequencies and add more depth to the central "boom," while maintaining clear attack definition. Ergonomically, the rounded corners, thumb notches at the top, and the rounded front plate with convex contact improve the feel under the hand, reduce fatigue during long sessions, and promote more consistent strikes. The specially designed rubber feet stabilize the instrument and contribute to sound clarity by limiting unwanted floor vibrations.

Sound Characteristics

The Baltic birch body (9-ply, 12 mm) is a recognized choice for its combination of clear attack, clean projection, and natural warmth. On a cajon, this translates to a bass that starts quickly (without flabbiness), good sustain, and excellent clarity of nuances when alternating between center (bass) and edges (slaps). Birch also offers a very "clean" response: ghost notes and rolls are more distinguishable, which is valuable for flamenco playing and dynamic accompaniment.

The micro-wound strings provide a fine grain rich in harmonics, with controlled sizzle: present enough to give the "snare drum" character but restrained enough not to mask the bass. The addition of the Bass reflex enhances the sense of depth and helps the instrument "fill" the space, especially useful when playing without a microphone or with simple miking. Finally, the ergonomic striking plate promotes comfortable and consistent attack, which is immediately noticeable in the consistency of the slap and the precision of accents.
