Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The Tango handmade cajon range is part of a "luthier" approach to the modern cajon: meticulous construction, comfort details designed for long sessions, and an integrated snare timbre via metal strings. The manual assembly of the strings, done in the style of José "Pepote" Hernández Diaz, emphasizes response consistency and the finesse of the sizzle, while maintaining a solid and musical low end.

Made in Spain, this cajon positions itself as an expressive and versatile instrument, designed to offer both comfortable playability and a recording-ready sound, with a refined aesthetic thanks to the thermal marking on the body.

Who This Cajon Is For

This cajon is aimed at intermediate to advanced musicians seeking a handcrafted instrument with a true dynamic range, but it remains perfectly accessible to a demanding beginner thanks to its ergonomics and immediate response. Its clear and controllable snare effect suits both acoustic accompaniment and amplified contexts.

It is particularly comfortable in flamenco, acoustic pop, latin, fusion, and world music, where a present low end and clear articulation in ghost notes, rolls, and offbeats are expected.

Features and Innovations

The core of the "snare" character comes from two sets of three pre-tuned micro-wound metal strings, placed inside the playing surface. This setup favors precise sizzle, with good separation between bass (center and lower area) and crack (upper zone), helping to sculpt the groove without forcing.

Comfort is not an afterthought: the rounded corners, thumb notches at the top, and the ergonomic front plate with convex contact stabilize the hand and reduce fatigue, while improving attack consistency. The specially designed rubber feet enhance stability and limit unwanted floor vibrations.

Sound

Baltic birch (7-ply, 9 mm body) is appreciated for its balance between clear attack and projection. On a cajon, this translates to a firm and readable low end that doesn't collapse when played hard, and a quick response in accents. The result is a full, punchy, and warm sound with good precision in dynamics.

The front plate (available depending on version in Limba or Light Eucalyptus, here with an Eucalyptus front plate) adds an extra touch of articulation. Eucalyptus often favors a reactive striking sensation, useful for highlighting ghost notes and embellishments, while the micro-wound strings add a tighter and more controlled snare grain.

Thanks to the ergonomics of the front plate and the string placement, the cajon maintains good definition between playing zones: you get a deep, centered kick and a snare that remains expressive, from the softest whisper to the strongest accents.
