A Classic Capsule Heritage, Modernized
The UMT 70 S continues the DNA of great side-address studio microphones while adopting modern electronics. The output transformer is replaced by an active balancing stage, ensuring precise lows, detailed highs, and better rejection of RF interference. Result: lowered self-noise, increased dynamic headroom, and daily reliability.
For Demanding Vocals and Instruments
Designed for vocal and instrumental soloists, radio, television, and any critical recording, the UMT 70 S delivers faithful and present reproduction. Whether for voice-over or singing, strings, winds, guitars, or piano, it integrates easily thanks to its adaptable directivity and controlled proximity behavior.
Key Features and Sonic Advantages
The directivity selector located under the head instantly switches between omni, cardioid, and figure-8. The omnidirectional pattern remains perfectly flat in the lows, with a slight boost of about 2 dB around 10.5 kHz to open up the high end. The cardioid and figure-8 modes offer a "presence bump" of up to 4 dB around 7 kHz, combined with a subtle low-frequency roll-off: the signature that creates the sense of "presence" and separation in the mix.
The side-address design (sensitivity axis perpendicular to the body) facilitates placement near bulky sources. The high-pass filter limits proximity effect in cardioid and figure-8 modes, while the -10 dB pad secures against high SPLs. Power is supplied via 48 V phantom power according to DIN 45596 and IEC 268-15 standards, through a standard 3-pin XLR connector.

Questions frequently asked
What polar patterns does the Microtech Gefell UMT70S offer?
The three selectable polar patterns are omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-8, via a switch located under the capsule.
What power supply is required for this studio microphone?
The required power is 48 V phantom power, compliant with DIN 45596 and IEC 268-15 standards. Connection is made via a 3-pin XLR socket.
Does the low-cut filter help with close vocal recordings?
Thanks to the high-pass filter, the proximity effect can be reduced in cardioid and figure-8 modes. The -10 dB pad also helps protect recordings at high sound pressure levels.
What is the cardioid frequency response signature on the UMT70S?
In cardioid mode, a presence boost of up to 4 dB around 7 kHz is combined with a slight roll-off in the low frequencies. This response enhances vocal and instrument separation in a mix.
Which accessories are listed for this microphone?
For mounting, a satin nickel EA 21 shock mount is listed under the number 202318. A W 76 anthracite windscreen is also indicated under the reference 202407. The C 70 connection cable has the reference 202212.
