A reimagined Rottenburgh: Baroque spirit, modern precision

It is always possible to go further, even when an instrument is already a playing reference. This Rottenburgh recorder has been completely redesigned based on the latest innovations announced by the manufacturer, with a very performance-oriented approach: optimizing the air path, stabilizing sound production, and expanding dynamic potential. The result aims for a more homogeneous, expressive, and comfortable instrument, while preserving the aesthetic and sound identity expected from a Baroque-style recorder.

For which musician, and in which styles?

This Rottenburgh is primarily intended for intermediate to advanced musicians who want a recorder capable of nuance, clear articulation, and stability in demanding passages. It is very suitable for Baroque music and early music (refined sound, precise articulation), but also for ambitious pedagogy, ensembles, and projects where clean projection and controlled timbre are expected. Its Baroque fingering naturally makes it coherent with the repertoire and playing habits most widespread today.

Sound and design

The announced work on the windway and internal geometry aims for a stable air column, which concretely results in more consistent sound production, better tone control, and an instrument less prone to "hoarseness" when demanding breath support. The curved conical windway, the narrower air entry, the wider air exit, and the optimized underside of the labium contribute to a clearer attack and a more modulable sound, with increased dynamic potential.

The improved bore is presented as a central lever to achieve a pure and balanced timbre across all registers, with a louder low register and a clearer high register. The choice of olive wood also brings a strong visual identity (pronounced grain) and an "organic" feel under the fingers, often appreciated for phrasing work and expressive subtlety. Finally, the double holes (C/C# and D/D#) facilitate the precision of accidentals and intonation control, while maintaining natural ergonomics.

On the mechanical side, the new stable key system emphasizes ease of handling, with muffled key noise. This attention to comfort is particularly interesting when playing for long periods, fast passages, or on large instruments where mechanical stability and discretion become real assets.

Recommended compatible accessories

This recorder comes with the essentials to get started and maintain the instrument: case, cleaning rod and cloth, cork grease, certificate, fingering chart, and maintenance kit. To extend daily comfort, it may be relevant in the long term to plan for a renewal of cork grease and dedicated drying cloths to maintain good sealing and impeccable hygiene.
