The Denner Series: The Legacy of a Reference Baroque Sound

With the Denner series, Mollenhauer continues the great tradition of recorders inspired by historical instruments, developed based on originals by Jacob Denner (1681-1735) in Nuremberg and Copenhagen. This "high-end" positioning is reflected in a thorough pursuit of timbre, tuning, and finish, aiming to recapture a rich baroque character while maintaining a reliable and modern response.

This alto version benefits from a new bore design : the goal is clear, to offer an elegant, balanced, and stable sound, including in the upper register where the technical demands of a recorder become critical.

For Which Musician and Repertoires?

The Mollenhauer Denner alto is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced musicians, as well as demanding players seeking an expressive alto recorder for precise intonation and articulation work. Its baroque fingering (widely used in conservatories) facilitates integration into a classical pathway and the interpretation of early music.

In terms of styles, it is particularly comfortable in the baroque repertoire (bright sound, balanced registers), but also suits chamber music, recorder ensembles, and any situation requiring a precise, clear, and musically "alive" instrument.

Sound and Design

Made of rosewood, this alto recorder offers a rich and bright baroque timbre, with a response designed to remain stable and homogeneous throughout the range. The redesigned bore promotes reliable intonation and more confident playing, even when demanding the upper register.

The double hole (generally dedicated to semitone fingerings) provides a real advantage in terms of tuning and control, especially on sensitive notes. The finish emphasizes detail: fully undercut tone holes for better response, finely crafted ornamental rings, and a surface treated with vegetable oils to preserve the wood and feel. The design is also made to remain comfortable, including for large hands.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

This recorder comes with the essentials to start and properly maintain the instrument: cotton case edged with leather, wooden cleaning rod, joint grease, fingering chart, and maintenance manual. To complement, a music stand and a tuner can be useful daily, without any specific compatibility constraints.
