Essential Information About the Short Scale StingRay Bass - Midnight Confetti

  • 30" / 762 mm short scale format: shorter fret spacing for easier playability without losing the StingRay DNA.

  • Passive StingRay neodymium humbucker pickup: crisp attack, round and "thumpy" low end, with excellent output level.

  • 3-position rotary selector switch (parallel, single coil, series): three instantly usable tonal characters.

  • Premium comfort and durability: roasted maple neck, 22 stainless steel frets, lightweight tuners, refined finish, and included Mono case.

The StingRay in short scale: a modern take on a Music Man classic

The StingRay is one of the most recognizable basses in modern music history, famous for its punch, mix presence, and instantly identifiable tone. With this Short Scale StingRay, Music Man retains the model's personality while making it more accessible and compact: the same "modern classic" spirit, but in an instrument with a reduced scale length and very natural feel. The Midnight Confetti finish adds a bold stage presence, while the craftsmanship and hardware remain true to the brand's high standards for instruments made in the USA.

A bass designed for comfort, stage, and studio

Thanks to its 30" / 762 mm scale length, this StingRay appeals both to bassists seeking an easier daily instrument and to those looking for a softer touch and "compact" feel. Smaller hands, guitarists switching to bass, or musicians playing long sets will appreciate the reduced string spacing and immediate playability. Style-wise, it excels wherever groove and a solid foundation are needed: rock, pop, funk, soul, indie, electro, RnB, blues. Its passive electronics also make it very studio-friendly, with a simple direct signal to process and natural dynamics.

A warm and powerful StingRay tone with three instant voices

The core sound of this model is based on a StingRay neodymium humbucker pickup, specifically adapted for the short scale format. The neodymium magnets provide a fast response and generous output level while maintaining a well-controlled low end and mids that "cut" easily in the mix. Since the bass is passive, right-hand attack remains crucial: the harder you play, the more the bass responds, delivering that highly sought-after organic feel.

The 3-position rotary selector is a real musical asset. In parallel, you get a balanced, clear, and articulate sound, ideal for precise lines and parts that need space to breathe. In single coil, the bass gains definition and "grain," perfect for finer parts, vintage grooves, or arrangements with limited sonic space. In series, the pickup becomes thicker and more powerful, with a chunky, percussive edge that reinforces riffs and strong fundamentals. All of this is served by an ash body, known for its projection, clarity, and beautiful midrange response, and a roasted maple neck that promotes stability and a sharp attack.

Playability is enhanced by premium details: 22 stainless steel frets (precise attack, minimal wear), a comfortable C-shaped neck profile, and an adjustable truss rod that can be accessed without removing components or strings, very practical for adjusting action according to your string gauge and playing style.

Recommended compatible accessories

To match the 30" / 762 mm scale length, use short scale bass string sets (for example, a gauge of 45-65-85-105, like the original set). A standard instrument jack cable works perfectly with the passive electronics. For transport, the instrument comes with a Mono soft case, ideal for daily protection of the bass.
