A fuzz classic in MXR format, inspired by the golden age of pedals

The Classic 108 Fuzz follows the great tradition of silicon fuzzes that marked the late 60s and early 70s: a sharper and more stable sound than a germanium fuzz, with a nice gain reserve and a strong presence in the mix. MXR here takes the DNA of a legendary "Fuzz Face" type circuit loaded with BC-108 transistors but adapts it to a robust and practical format for modern pedalboards, without losing the raw and expressive character that makes this type of effect so charming.

For whom, for which styles, and in what contexts?

This fuzz is aimed at guitarists who want an immediately inspiring vintage texture without limiting themselves to a single style. It excels in rock, blues rock, psychedelic, garage, and classic rock, but can also be formidable in alternative, stoner, or even more modern contexts whenever thick and textured saturations are appreciated.

In the studio, it adds a layer of harmonics and natural compression ideal for thickening a track. Live, it fits easily on a pedalboard and responds very well to playing dynamics: pick attack, palm mutes, double-stops, or more open fingered phrasing. Tip: lowering the guitar volume often produces a fuzz that "cleans up" and becomes crunchier, perfect for transitioning from a verse to a chorus without adjusting the pedal's settings.

Controls, Buffer Switch, and pedalboard-oriented design

The MXR Classic 108 Fuzz focuses on simple and musical ergonomics: quickly adjust the output level and fuzz intensity to find the right balance between attack, sustain, and thickness. Its Buffer Switch is a real plus in real life: some wah pedals or circuits placed before a Fuzz Face type fuzz can cause undesirable behaviors (whistling, oscillations, loss of dynamics). Activating this mode improves chain compatibility while preserving the vintage sound spirit.

The true bypass keeps the signal intact when the effect is off, and the LED provides immediate on/off status feedback on stage. All housed in a sturdy MXR enclosure, ready to withstand rehearsals and tours.

The sound

The Classic 108 Fuzz delivers a dense, gritty, and singing fuzz, with that "late sixties" vibe that turns an already slightly driven amp into an organic wall of sound. The low end remains generous, the mids stand out with character, and the high end retains just enough bite to highlight attacks and harmonics.

Its great strength is dynamics: playing softer tames the sound into an almost crunchy tone; playing harder makes the fuzz roar again with musical compression and ample sustain. Placed before a wah, the Buffer Switch helps maintain more controlled behavior, making it easier to achieve expressive and controllable sounds, from massive riffs to saturated leads in a "vintage solo" style.
