From the KH 120A to the KH 120 II: An Evolution Designed for Today's Monitoring

The KH 120 II continues the legacy of a classic nearfield monitor while making a clear step forward in precision and adaptability. Where the KH 120A was adopted for its reliability and consistency in the studio, the KH 120 II modernizes the approach with advanced DSP architecture, more transparent crossovers, and native integration of current workflows (calibration, network audio). The result: a speaker that is easier to position, more consistent from room to room, and more demanding on detail, without losing the Neumann "translation" DNA (what you mix exports better).

A Nearfield Monitor Tailored for Studio, Broadcast, and Mobile Setups

Designed for nearfield monitoring, the KH 120 II targets environments where decisions must be quick and reliable: home studios, production studios, OB vans, light post-production, editing, event streaming, live recordings, and temporary workspaces. Its ability to calibrate to the room via MA 1 is especially relevant when acoustics are less than ideal or variable: you maintain a more neutral signature, a clearer soundstage, and better-controlled low-mids, essential for balancing vocals, guitars, keyboards, and snare drum hits without overcorrecting in the mix.

DSP, Controlled Directivity, and Efficient Amplification: Innovations Serving Precision

Linear Phase Crossovers and Automatic Alignment with MA 1

One of the central advances of the KH 120 II is DSP management, enabling linear phase crossover filters and optimization of temporal coherence between woofer and tweeter. Combined with the MA 1 system (microphone not included), this approach facilitates alignment and optimization in real-world conditions, taking into account the room's influence. The benefit is immediate on source localization, stereo field depth, and confidence in reverbs and delays, even at moderate levels.

New Acoustic Architecture: Less Distortion, More Control, More Useful Bass

The KH 120 II features a redesigned MDF enclosure, chosen for its rigidity and durability, to limit unwanted vibrations and enhance low-frequency clarity. The woofer also benefits from a new design aimed at improving dynamic handling and bass intelligibility. Additionally, the MMD (Mathematically Modeled Dispersion) waveguide contributes to more controlled dispersion: tonal balance remains more consistent when you move slightly, and the speaker behaves more predictably in imperfectly treated rooms.

Class D Amplification and Dedicated Protections

Neumann highlights a patented-pending amplification technology targeting high audio performance with the energy efficiency of Class D. This power reserve, combined with separate protections (peak limiter and thermal protection) for the woofer and tweeter, helps maintain clean reproduction when working at sustained levels, while safeguarding the speaker during intensive use (long sessions, mobile control rooms, streaming).
