In free field, i.e., close to the source, the KM 183 offers a slight high-frequency boost (about 7 dB at 10 kHz) to maintain definition and airiness without losing the natural feel that makes a high-end small diaphragm microphone appealing.

Its transformerless head amplifier and low impedance output stage are designed to preserve capsule integrity and maintain a stable signal over long cable lengths, rated up to 300 meters without transmission loss.
