Requirements According to License Type
This is a DSP extension only (not a full license). It unlocks AAX DSP processing on HDX for your existing ISL license (ISL 2st or ISL 2). Requires Avid Pro Tools Ultimate with HDX hardware. Plugin available in AAX DSP format only on HDX; other formats are covered by your base ISL license.
Purpose of the NUGEN ISL DSP HDX Extension
Designed for HDX-equipped studios, this extension allows you to use ISL's "True Peak" limiter directly on Avid DSP cards. Mix and master with confidence while respecting true peaks, avoiding inter-sample reconstruction artifacts and codec-induced distortions, all while preserving stereo/surround integrity and musical dynamics.
Main Features
Intelligent True Peak Brick-Wall
At the core of ISL, the TPlim control automatically adjusts the transfer curve for minimal brick-wall protection artifacts. The TPmax parameter sets the true peak limit and ensures compliance with delivery standards, whether for broadcast or music production.
Transparency and Bass Control
Auto Release analyzes incoming frequency content, adapts to low frequencies, and prevents distortion. The result is discreet limiting, inaudible even in the most demanding contexts (post, cinema, broadcast, streaming).
Advanced Visualizations for Confident Adjustment
Exclusive "steering" and "ducking" indicators guide your decisions to preserve spatial image and ambiance. Apple "afclip" monitoring secures the chain up to compressed platforms (AAC/MP3) by avoiding inter-sample clipping.
Broadcast Reference
ISL relies on the standardized ITU-R BS.1770-4 algorithm and fits into True Peak compliance workflows. The NUGEN ecosystem is recognized in demanding broadcast environments, with the Loudness Toolkit referenced within the "Production Technology Alliance" program.

Questions frequently asked
Is it necessary to already own ISL 2 or ISL 2st for this HDX extension?
The extension requires an existing ISL license, either ISL 2st or ISL 2 version. It only unlocks the AAX DSP processing and is not a full license.
Is it compatible with Pro Tools Ultimate without an HDX card?
Usage requires Avid Pro Tools Ultimate and one or more Avid HDX cards. Without HDX hardware, the AAX DSP format cannot be activated. Other formats depend on the base ISL license.
Which formats are available on Mac and Windows?
On Mac, the associated ISL license provides access to VST-3, AU, and AAX formats, while Windows supports VST-3 and AAX.
Can the limiter process a 7.1.2 surround mix?
Support up to 7.1.2 is covered by the ISL 2 license. The ISL 2st version is intended for mono and stereo productions.
How do TPmax and Auto Release work?
The TPmax parameter sets a peak ceiling compliant with delivery requirements. TPlim automatically adjusts the limiting curve, while Auto Release adapts to the frequency content, particularly in the lows.
