An expression controller designed for the experimental world of Old Blood Noise Endeavors
The Old Blood Noise Endeavors Expression Slider is not an audio effect in the strictest sense, but a control tool designed to give pedals that accept an external expression command a new dimension. While a traditional expression pedal is operated with the foot, this model features a compact fader directly inspired by the ergonomics of mixing consoles and studio equipment.
It naturally fits into the Old Blood Noise Endeavors ecosystem, a brand renowned for its unconventional delays, reverbs, modulations and sound textures. The slider lets you instantly control the parameters assigned to the EXP input of a compatible pedal: modulation speed, delay time, reverb level, feedback, mix or any other setting provided by the connected device.
An expressive solution for the studio, stage and compact pedalboards
The Expression Slider is aimed at guitarists, bassists, keyboard players and electronic musicians who want immediate control over their effects without cluttering their setup. Its compact format is perfectly suited to already crowded pedalboards, but its usefulness extends well beyond the stage.
In the studio, place it next to your audio interface or console to adjust a parameter during a take without having to interrupt your playing. On stage, it can be installed on a stand near a keyboard or microphone, allowing you to evolve an ambience, accentuate a feedback swell or transform the character of a delay at just the right moment.
It is particularly well suited to musicians working in ambient, post-rock, experimental music, electro, textured pop or alternative rock. It also provides a practical alternative to a traditional expression pedal for users who prefer manual control and slow, precise, visually guided movements.
A simple, smooth and immediately usable 50K fader
At the heart of the Expression Slider is a smooth-travel 50K sliding potentiometer. The slider allows you to gradually sweep across the control range defined by the pedal or connected device. It produces no sound, does not alter the audio signal and adds no noise: it acts exclusively as an external control.
Connection is made via a 6.35 mm TRS jack output. The wiring is optimized for the Old Blood Noise Endeavors expression standard, with the slider connected to the tip contact. This design makes it compatible with Old Blood Noise Endeavors pedals and with many devices that accept a passive 50K expression controller using the same wiring.
Its operation without a power supply makes it easy to integrate into any setup. Simply connect it to the compatible expression input of your effect using a 6.35 mm TRS jack cable, then assign the desired parameter from the pedal when this function is available. Please note: this is a controller operated by hand, not a pedal designed to support the weight of your foot.
The sound
The Expression Slider has no sonic signature of its own, since it does not process your instrument's signal. Its influence depends entirely on the pedal it controls and the parameter assigned to it. However, it can become a genuine tool for putting sound in motion: gradually open the mix of a reverb, increase the feedback of a delay, speed up a modulation or move from a subtle setting to a radical texture in real time.
Thanks to the smoothness of the fader, changes can be highly gradual and nuanced. This approach encourages organic transitions, ambience swells and controlled texture changes, which are particularly useful for pads, loops, atmospheric passages and sonic experimentation. The markings around the slider also make it easier to return to frequently used settings.
