A modern fuzz inspired by the "gated" spirit

The Haunt belongs to the family of fuzz pedals that clamp down on the signal, giving the sensation of a note that "sticks," compresses, then fades away in a controlled manner. This type of fuzz is sought after for its edgy, sometimes grainy textures, and its ability to transform a simple guitar line into a living sonic material. Here, Old Blood Noise Endeavors takes the concept further with a control section designed to finely sculpt the gate closure, fuzz density, and overall balance of the output (Mix and Tone).

For which musicians and styles?

The Old Blood Noise Endeavors Haunt targets guitarists (and more broadly amplified instrumentalists) who want a versatile and creative fuzz pedal, equally comfortable with subtle textures or radical sounds. It suits intermediate to advanced players, as its controls open real exploration zones: it's easy to get a good sound quickly, then refine the fuzz's behavior according to your attack and dynamics.

Regarding styles, the Haunt is particularly inspiring for alternative rock, garage, stoner, noise, indie, and post-rock, but it can also add textured saturation in modern blues or pop, notably thanks to the Mix control that helps preserve definition. In the studio, it's ideal for layering tracks with different characters; live, it's easy to dial in to cut through a mix and naturally fits on a pedalboard oriented toward signature sounds.

Controls and modes: sculpt the fuzz, not just the gain

The Haunt is designed as a characterful fuzz where each control genuinely alters the circuit's behavior. The Volume adjusts the output level to match your amp or to push the input stage harder. The Fuzz control sets the saturation intensity, from subtle "soft blur" to dense, biting fuzz.

The Gate control is at the heart of the Haunt's identity: it governs how the signal "closes." In practice, you can achieve a smoother, continuous fuzz or, conversely, a drier, chopped texture that's very responsive to your picking hand and guitar volume. The Mix lets you blend clean sound with the saturated tone: a major asset for retaining punch, preserving pick attack, or making complex chords more readable. Finally, the Tone adjusts the frequency balance, ranging from a darker, thicker fuzz to a brighter, more cutting fuzz.

Two toggle switches complete the setup. The Mode switch toggles between two silicon transistor combinations, affecting texture, compression, and feel under the fingers. The Bass switch adds bass reinforcement to the signal, useful for thickening a guitar tuned lower, supporting monolithic riffs, or avoiding a thin feel when the fuzz becomes very aggressive.

The sound

The Haunt offers a palette far beyond a "one-trick" fuzz. At low settings, it can remain nuanced, slightly fuzzy, with a beautiful sense of texture that still respects the guitar's identity. Increasing the Fuzz and adjusting the Gate makes it more granular, more biting, with that "saw-like" textured edge that grabs the ear and instantly delivers a sonic signature.

The Mix is a crucial tool for musicality: it preserves dynamics and definition even as the fuzz thickens, helping maintain clear articulation in riffs or arpeggios. The Tone and Bass switch facilitate adaptation to your amp (crystal-clear clean, crunch, saturated channel) and your guitar (single coils, humbuckers), with a particularly interesting response to playing variations: sharp attack for cutting sounds, lighter playing for softer textures.
