An Orange Reissue Inspired by the Cult Pedals of the 70s

The Orange Vintage Distortion deliberately adopts the aesthetics and size of Orange units from the 1970s, as a nod to the golden age of power chords and roaring amps. On the outside, the intention is clear: a pedal "like before," but designed for today's stage with practical details like an LED and DC power input.

Under the hood, Orange didn't just copy: the circuit was rebuilt, abandoning the original diode clipping in favor of an "amp-style" design with a tone stack. The result: the signature remains vintage, but with a more controllable response and surprising versatility for a two-knob distortion.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

This distortion pedal is aimed at guitarists who want classic rock grit without spending time adjusting a full EQ. It suits both intermediate players and seasoned musicians looking for a "plug and play" distortion to complete their pedalboard, in studio or live.

In terms of styles, it fits within the realm of classic rock, garage, blues rock, and anything that requires a thick, musical crunch. Pushed harder, it can also become an excellent base for heavier riffs with a retro vibe, especially if you stack distortion with other effects (boost upfront, octaver, etc.).

Controls, Bypass, and Modern Details: Thoughtful Simplicity

The front panel remains minimalist: Level controls output volume, while Depth sets the intensity and density of the saturation. This two-potentiometer approach favors playing: you quickly find the right balance point, then control the rest with your guitar's volume and pick attack.

To refine brightness, Orange integrated an internal trimmer : bass and mids are intentionally "calibrated" for vintage character, and you adjust the highs depending on your amp, pickups, or speaker cabinet. Add to that a buffered bypass designed to preserve signal integrity in a long chain, and you get a decidedly vintage pedal... but perfectly comfortable on a modern pedalboard.

The Sound

The heart of the Orange Vintage Distortion is a seventies-style amp drive: biting attack, warmth in the low mids, and that "growl" that makes open chords and power chord riffs stand out. At low settings, it can serve as a gritty boost to thicken a clean channel; at higher levels, it shifts to a denser distortion, ideal for singing leads and dirty garage rhythms.

Its strength is responsiveness : the feel stays lively, with dynamics that follow your playing (soft right hand = crunch, sharp attack = more aggressive saturation). And if your setup is already bright, the internal high-frequency trimmer lets you maintain a vintage tone without harshness.
