Summary of This Book

A note grouping corresponds to a given number of beats, different from that imposed by the meter in which it is set, and which recurs repetitively. In this work, this concept is used as a concrete lever to enrich your rhythmic vocabulary, notably to build more coherent, better placed, and more expressive breaks.

To go beyond simple accent displacement, the book leads you to a closely related concept: polyrhythm. It consists of superimposing two (or more) rhythms whose note groupings do not nest in an "obvious" way (that is, without simple multiple relationships). The goal is to understand how these rhythmic layers coexist, intersect, and create a perfectly controllable musical tension.

The approach adopted starts from a simple and effective principle: the normal pulse (such as a 4/4, a 12/8, etc.), even if it is not necessarily played, is considered a reference rhythm. On this basis, you place a second rhythm: the note grouping you want to perform. This way of thinking facilitates anchoring in the tempo, improves regularity, and allows working on precision without losing track of the measure.

Ideal for musicians who want to solidify their rhythmic solfège, gain control over placements, and develop true ease in common meters, this content helps you make your ideas cleaner, more readable, and above all more musical, whether in individual practice or group playing situations.
