Designed to support drummers through the Rockschool 2012-2018 syllabus, this Grade 2 drum method focuses on the key skills expected at this level: rhythmic placement, limb independence, and reading standard notation. You will find a clear path to develop solid automatisms while staying rooted in the rock and pop aesthetic, with a repertoire designed to be musical, motivating, and close to real group playing situations.
The content revolves around 6 performance pieces covering different styles, to help you refine your drummer identity and "shape your specialization" as you progress through the grades. Each piece is accompanied by useful educational tools: fact files (information on the band or artist, context, and recommended listening) as well as walkthroughs, which offer hints and tips for tackling the most challenging passages (transitions, placements, orchestrations, dynamics).
To further develop groove and precision, the method includes a CD with full versions and backing tracks (with or without click). This is an excellent resource to develop playback skills, work on tempo, endurance, and stability, and learn to play "in the mix" as in rehearsals or on stage. Finally, the Free Choice Element option allows you to select 2 pieces of your choice for the exam, useful for highlighting your strengths and style.
Rockschool grades are indicated as accredited in the UK by the qualification regulators of England (OfQual), Wales (DCELLS), Northern Ireland (CCEA), and Scotland (SQA Accreditation).
