SE Custom 24 "Floyd": The PRS Icon Revisited for Modern Playing

The Custom 24 is PRS's most iconic model, recognizable by its balanced solidbody shape, fast neck, and decidedly versatile approach. This SE Custom 24 "Floyd" version retains the spirit of the Custom 24 while tailoring it for guitarists who want to push the vibrato much further: the Floyd Rose Series 1000 provides the confidence needed to play aggressively, pull the arm, dive, make harmonics sing, and chain bends without fear of drifting a half-step by the end of the song.

Placed in the SE range, this version aims for a "performance" experience: immediate feel, effective settings, and craftsmanship that emphasizes both comfort and sound projection. The Charcoal Cherry Burst finish highlights the carved flamed maple top and emphasizes the PRS look, both classic and modern.

Who Is This PRS SE Custom 24 Floyd For?

This guitar is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced musicians seeking a versatile electric capable of handling energetic playing, especially with a Floyd-style vibrato. It is particularly comfortable in styles where precision and tuning stability are crucial: modern rock, metal, hard rock, fusion, prog, and all "lead" approaches where vibrato is part of the language (dive bombs, wide vibratos, pinched harmonics, flutter effects).

A motivated beginner can also find this guitar very inspiring, provided they accept the specifics of a Floyd Rose (vibrato balancing, string changes, and more methodical setups). Once mastered, it is a true asset for playing loud, in tune, and exploring techniques impossible to reproduce with a fixed bridge.

A PRS Sound Signature: Clarity, Attack, and Versatility

The combination of a mahogany body and a carved flamed maple "Shallow Violin" top provides a very musical balance: mahogany offers a rich and warm foundation with good presence in the low mids, while maple adds attack and definition. The result: chords remain clear under saturation, riffs stay "tight," and leads cut through the mix without becoming harsh.

The PRS 85/15 "S" pickups are designed to offer an extended spectrum: deep but controlled lows (valuable in standard tunings or for tight palm mutes) and open highs that retain clarity even with high gain. The neck pickup is ideal for thick rhythms, while the bridge pickup provides the precision needed for solos, fast runs, and harmonics.

The electronics remain intentionally straightforward: one volume and one tone control, with a push/pull for humbucker splitting. In split mode, you get finer and snappier textures, useful for arpeggios, airier rhythms, or more "percussive" sounds. The 3-position selector allows instant switching between registers: neck, blend, bridge.

The maple "Wide Thin" neck and ebony fingerboard also contribute to the feel: crisp attack, quick response, and a smooth playing sensation, particularly appreciated for legato, clean bends, and technical passages across 24 frets. The Floyd Rose Series 1000, combined with the locking nut, enhances tuning stability and allows exploration of extreme vibratos while maintaining reliable intonation.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To stay as close as possible to the original specifications, a set of electric strings in 9-42 gauge is perfectly suited. For everyday comfort, a standard electric guitar strap and a tuner are simple and useful additions, both in rehearsal and on stage. The guitar comes with a gig bag, so you are already equipped for transport.
