PRS SE Silver Sky Defender Carpathian Grey LTD

An Exclusive Silver Sky in the Colors of the Defender Color Collection

The PRS SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition builds on the foundations of the signature model developed with John Mayer, in a visually unique version. This series draws inspiration from the contemporary shades of the Defender and brings them to a guitar designed for the stage, the studio, and everyday playing. Its deep, modern Carpathian Grey finishing is enhanced by a black pickguard, a first for this SE Silver Sky model.

This limited edition is about more than a new color. It also stands out with a specific Defender neck plate and a matching Custom PRS/Land Rover gig bag. It nevertheless retains everything that made the Silver Sky so successful: immediately familiar ergonomics, a playing feel inspired by the great three-single-coil electric guitars, and a distinctive enough sonic identity to find its place on a modern pedalboard.

An Expressive Electric Guitar for Demanding Musicians

The PRS SE Silver Sky Defender is aimed at both intermediate guitarists and experienced musicians looking for a versatile, comfortable, and responsive electric guitar. Its bolt-on neck features the PRS 635JM profile, designed to provide a natural feel in the hand: substantial enough to support confident rhythm playing, while remaining smooth for bends, double-stops, and fast phrases.

Its 8.5-inch / 216 mm key radius favors a traditional, musical feel, particularly well suited to open chords, blues playing, and left-hand vibrato nuances. The 22 frets provide a full range without altering the instrument's classic balance. This Silver Sky is especially well suited to blues, funk, pop, rock, soul, electric folk, and styles where playing dynamics need to remain at the forefront.

The Silver Sky Character: Clarity, Dynamics, and Inspiring In-Between Pickup Positions

The poplar body delivers a balanced response, with precise attack and a healthy level of resonance. Combined with the bolt-on maple neck, it promotes a direct and lively response: every pick nuance, change in attack, or volume adjustment is clearly perceptible. The rosewood key tempers this liveliness with a touch of warmth in the midrange, helping retain density in both clean sounds and moderate overdrive.

The three PRS 635JM " S " single-coil pickups form the sonic heart of this guitar. The neck pickup delivers warm lows and smooth highs, ideal for blues phrases, lush arpeggios, and deep clean tones. The middle pickup adds balance and definition, while the bridge pickup provides more bite to bring out funk rhythms, rock riffs, and incisive solos.

The 5-way selector provides access to all three pickups individually, as well as the two in-between combinations. These positions are ideal for achieving scooped, bright, and percussive sounds, particularly effective with light compression, transparent overdrive, or an amplifier set just at the edge of breakup. The electronics, consisting of one volume and two tone controls, allow the treble range of each pickup to be fine-tuned and the guitar to be adapted to different amplifiers without losing its identity.

The 2-point steel tremolo completes this expressive approach. It allows subtle inflections, gently vibrated chords, and more pronounced effects, while retaining a smooth feel under the picking hand. The vintage-style tuners and synthetic bone nut contribute to reliable tuning stability, including during regular tremolo use.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

The guitar comes factory-fitted with 10-46 electric guitar strings. To preserve its tension balance, setup, and tremolo response, it is recommended to use the same string gauge when replacing the strings. Since the Custom PRS/Land Rover gig bag is already included, the guitar comes with suitable protection for everyday transportation.
