PRS SE Silver Sky Defender Woolstone Green LTD

An exclusive Silver Sky blending guitar tradition with Defender inspiration

The PRS SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition Woolstone Green revisits one of the most recognizable signature guitars from the American brand. Developed around John Mayer’s preferences, the Silver Sky combines the hallmarks of three single-coil electric guitars with a modern PRS design, particularly refined in terms of playability and finishing.

This Defender Color Collection series stands out with its unique aesthetic approach. Its Woolstone Green finish is inspired by Defender’s contemporary color palette, while the black pickguard provides a bold contrast that is new to this model. The specific Defender neck plate and Custom PRS/Land Rover gig bag highlight the exclusive character of this edition, designed as much for collectors as for performing musicians.

An expressive electric guitar for rhythm playing, blues and pop

Accessible to intermediate guitarists and seasoned musicians alike, this PRS SE Silver Sky prioritizes immediate playing comfort and a dynamic response. Its bolt-on neck features the 635JM profile, designed to provide a rounded, reassuring feel in the hand, with enough substance for firmly played chords while remaining fluid during melodic phrases.

The 8.5-inch / 216 mm key radius contributes to its traditional character: it encourages natural chord fretting, nuanced rhythm playing and precise vibrato control. With its 22 frets and 25.5-inch / 648 mm scale length, it is particularly well suited to blues, pop, funk, classic rock, soul and indie styles, where the nuances of the attack matter just as much as the level of saturation.

Three 635JM " S " single-coil pickups for a clear, lively and nuanced sound

The SE Silver Sky Defender features a configuration of three 635JM " S " single-coil pickups. This design delivers a clear, articulate and responsive sound, ideal for bringing out every note in a complex chord or retaining definition with modulation effects, Delay or reverb.

The neck pickup favors round, singing tones, well suited to bluesy lines, enveloping arpeggios and expressive solos. The bridge pickup provides more bite and presence for incisive rhythms, while the middle pickup completes the set with a balanced voice. The selector’s intermediate 5-way positions produce more scooped, bright and percussive tones, highly valued in funk and pop.

The poplar body provides a balanced, lightweight tonal foundation, while the maple neck contributes to the attack’s liveliness. The rosewood key tempers this brightness with a softer feel under the fingers. Combined with the PRS two-point steel tremolo, this setup encourages an immediate response, even sustain and great expressiveness in playing nuances.

The passive electronics comprise a master volume, two tone controls and a 5-way selector. This configuration offers intuitive control for quickly moving from a full clean sound to a brighter rhythm tone or a denser lead sound, without losing the organic character of the single-coil pickups.
