An SE Designed to Explore, at the Heart of the PRS Range
The SE Special Semi-Hollow embodies the PRS spirit: meticulous craftsmanship and modern electronics serving creativity. Within the SE series, this model stands out with its semi-hollow construction and three-pickup architecture, enhanced by the central PRS Narrowfield DD "S" pickup. The result: a guitar covering a very wide spectrum while maintaining the PRS visual identity with the carved flamed maple top and the iconic "Birds" inlays.
For Whom, and For Which Styles?
This PRS is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want a single guitar capable of doing it all: clean and detailed rhythms, punchy crunch, singing leads, and the more airy textures typical of semi-hollows. It excels in blues, jazz, pop, and rock, yet remains comfortable when quickly switching from crystal-clear clean tones to dense saturation without changing instruments.
The Tone
The semi-hollow mahogany body provides warmth, rich mids, and a nice roundness, while the carved flamed maple top adds attack and definition, particularly useful for maintaining clarity with gain. The 58/15 LT "S" (neck and bridge) configuration delivers balanced double humbucker sounds, ranging from smooth to biting, and the Narrowfield DD "S" in the middle position offers a precise and articulate color, ideal for funky tones, arpeggios, and intermediate positions. With the 5-position selector and the two mini split switches, you can quickly switch from a thick, sustained register to clearer, sharper tones perfect for cutting through a mix.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
The guitar comes with a Gig Bag. To stay as close as possible to the original specifications, a set of 10-46 gauge strings is recommended when replacing strings to maintain the same tension balance and tremolo feel.
