The Silver Sky SE: The Spirit of the Iconic Model in an Accessible Version
Born from the collaboration between PRS and John Mayer, the Silver Sky has established itself as a modern reinterpretation of the great tradition of single-coil electric guitars, with special attention to playability and details. This SE version retains the fundamentals that make the concept charming (the 635JM profile, PRS Silver Sky headstock, refined visual identity) while making the experience more affordable. Here in LH (left-handed), it finally opens the Silver Sky catalog to lefty guitarists who want a serious, consistent instrument ready for the stage.
For Which Guitarists and Styles?
The PRS SE Silver Sky Maple LH is aimed at motivated beginners, intermediate, and advanced guitarists looking for a versatile electric guitar that is easy to set up and highly expressive. It excels particularly in pop, funk, blues, soul, indie, and classic rock: clear attacks, articulate chords, precise dynamics, and excellent response to right-hand nuances. Thanks to its very balanced base, it also perfectly accommodates pedals for denser sounds without losing definition.
Sound Characteristics
The poplar body provides a natural balance: present mids, well-defined highs, and a responsive attack, ideal for articulate clean tones. The bolt-on maple neck and maple fingerboard add attack and a "snap" sensation much appreciated in funk rhythm or blues lead playing. The three PRS "635JM S" single-coil pickups cover a wide spectrum: bright and singing bridge and neck positions, more "scooped" and snappy intermediate positions, perfect for chicken picking and arpeggios. The setup is controlled by 1 volume, 2 tone controls, and a 5-position selector switch to quickly shape the character. Finally, the 2-point steel vibrato promotes smooth action, natural sustain, and good tuning stability, enhanced by the synthetic bone nut and vintage-style tuners.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain the original feel, choose a 10-46 gauge electric guitar string set. A comfortable strap and a reliable 6.35 mm jack cable ideally complete the instrument for rehearsals and stage use. The included gig bag is perfect for protecting the guitar during transport.
