PSP 285 is a multi-effect delay plug-in designed to go far beyond classic echo. It excels equally in "musical" production tasks (slapback on vocals, stereo delays on guitars, rhythmic ping-pong on synths, subtle widening) and in sound design (unstable textures, pitch-shifting, controlled resonances, "sci-fi" effects, reversed reverb tails). Thanks to its approach based on delay lines with variable sample rates, it offers a very wide palette, from analog tape character to more radical transformations, while maintaining a coherent workflow for mixing.
Main Features
Advanced delay and precise repetition control
At the core of PSP 285 is a particularly flexible delay section: pre-delay per channel, continuous delay time adjustment, independent left/right parameters, and the ability to link channels for quick adjustments. The presence of delay gating allows better control over the number of echoes and their level, useful for keeping a punchy and clear delay in a dense mix. The wet signal ducking further enhances clarity by keeping the source upfront, then raising the repetitions when the instrument or voice fades.
Stereo, Mid-Side, and cross-feedback
To build a wide space without muddying the center, PSP 285 offers operation in Stereo (L/R) or Mid-Side (M/S). Add to this the cross-feedback between channels and you get complex bounces, very effective for creating rhythmic patterns and natural stereo movements. This combination is ideal on pads, arpeggios, guitar delays, or insert effects on effects buses.
Musical modulation: tempo-synced LFO and envelope follower
The modulation section includes a tempo-synchronizable LFO and an envelope follower that can be mixed in any proportion. This allows moving from regular modulation (chorus/vibrato type on repetitions) to performance-reactive variations (dynamics, transients, intensity). The plug-in offers 6 click-free LFO waveforms, as well as offset and phase spread settings between channels to achieve a wider and more organic stereo movement.
Filters, saturation, and character
PSP 285 provides 17 filter types with adjustable cutoff and resonance, as well as flexible routing to place filtering creatively. You can complement this sculpting work with a Drive algorithm (hard or soft saturation) placed post-filter or routed independently. This section is perfect for "aging" a delay, taming highs, emphasizing mids, or conversely pushing resonances for more radical effects.
Integrated reverb module and placement in the chain
The multi-algorithm reverb includes colors like springs, plates, various spaces, as well as a reverse option. It is available in mono-to-stereo and dual mono, which facilitates more targeted processing. Highlight: the reverb position in the chain is flexible (on dry, on wet, or on a delay wet+dry output), convenient for deciding whether the reverb should dress the source, the repetitions, or the entire output.
Workflow presets and auxiliary use
Mix parameters can be saved as presets or applied globally via a Global mode, convenient for browsing sounds without changing your dry/wet balance. A Wet mode is also provided for use on sends (auxiliary), to maintain clean level and effect return management. Finally, control signal filtering contributes to smooth, click-free behavior even during automation.
