What PSP 608 Multi-Delay Is For

PSP 608 Multi-Delay is a creative delay plug-in designed to sculpt space, movement, and depth within a mix. It is suitable for both "utility" tasks (widening a vocal, thickening a guitar, creating a clean slapback, syncing repeats to tempo) and sound design uses (rhythmic textures, modulated delays, lo-fi ambiances, filtered feedbacks, tape effects, and reverberated tails). Thanks to its multi-tap structure and modulation and saturation options, it naturally fits into electronic production, pop, rock, ambient, post-production, and any situation where you want to transform a signal into a living, expressive material.

Main Features

Up to 8 taps, each as a true effect module

The core of PSP 608 Multi-Delay is based on eight configurable delay lines, with durations up to 8 seconds per channel. Each tap can be adjusted independently, allowing the construction of complex patterns, asymmetrical "ping-pong" echoes, subtle stereo doubling, or very dense repetition cascades. Delay time is continuously controllable in milliseconds and can also be quantized to rhythmic values, handy for staying perfectly locked to the project tempo.

Three modes for three feedback philosophies

The plug-in offers three operating modes that change how feedback circulates. In Multidelay mode, each tap has its own feedback buffer, ideal for independent echo networks. The Multitap mode centralizes feedback via a Master Feedback applied to a selectable tap, useful for maintaining overall coherence while benefiting from multiple taps. Finally, the MultiFB mode allows specific feedback behaviors when a tap is muted, enabling exploration of more experimental sonic trajectories.

Advanced filtering: shaping timbre, controlling clutter

To prevent a delay from masking the dry signal, PSP 608 Multi-Delay provides an arsenal of filters. Each tap can use multiple types of quadruple biquad filters, including Low Pass, Band Pass, High Pass, a Peak filter, and several Shelf filters. A filtering module in the feedback loop adds even finer control, with topology choices (State Variable Filter or Biquad) and adjustable cutoff frequency and resonance-perfect for gradually "darkening" repeats, emphasizing a frequency band, or creating sweeping effects.

Musical modulation: LFO and envelope follower

The modulation section combines an LFO and an envelope follower to inject movement. Modulation depth can reach the equivalent of 3 octaves, opening the door to very subtle variations as well as radical transformations. Modulation can also target the filter cutoff frequency, allowing synchronization of timbre evolution to a cycle (LFO) or to the dynamics of the performance (envelope follower), particularly effective on drums, synths, or rhythm guitars.

Tape-style saturation and built-in vintage reverb

To add character and avoid a too clinical sound, PSP 608 Multi-Delay includes tape saturation with adjustable gain, derived from an algorithm inspired by the brand's mastering processors. Adding drive can thicken the signal, round transients, and enhance the presence of repeats. A vintage reverb completes the package with faithful simulations of spring and plate reverbs, ideal for placing echoes in a more organic space without multiplying plug-ins.

Flexible chain and full automation

A strong point of the plug-in is routing flexibility: feedback and drive can be positioned at the beginning or the end of the chain, profoundly changing how repeats build up (cleaner, controlled feedback or feedback that saturates and colors over iterations). Finally, all parameters are automatable via the host and MIDI, allowing you to craft transitions, feedback build-ups, stereo variations, or filter morphings directly in the arrangement.
