What PSP HertzRider 2 Is For
PSP HertzRider 2 is a frequency shifting plug-in designed for modern production, creative mixing, and sound design. Unlike a classic pitch shifter, frequency shifting alters the spectral content of a signal in often more unexpected ways, making it an excellent tool to add movement, depth, or an "alien" character to a sound source.
On inharmonic sounds (such as snare drums, metallic percussion, foley, or impacts), it becomes a powerful ally to retune a pitch, tighten a timbre, or push a resonance toward a more musical area. On harmonic sounds (voices, guitars, synths, pads), it can instead produce abrasive textures, beating, controlled detuning, and very inspiring sonic destruction effects for electro, experimental, techno, ambient, or film music.
Main Features
Precise frequency shifting, from detail to chaos
PSP HertzRider 2 offers high-quality frequency shifting processing with a range of settings designed to cover both micro-variations (widening a sound, creating a slight shimmer, thickening a pad) and extreme transformations (unstable textures, dissonances, mechanical effects). The algorithm has been optimized, and the plug-in remains designed for simple use with controlled CPU consumption.
Integrated LFO and tempo sync
The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) opens the door to lively and musical modulation. You can generate slow, organic oscillations or faster movements to achieve atypical vibrato effects, spectral sweeps, or rhythmic variations that follow your arrangement. The LFO sync mode allows aligning the modulation to note values based on the host tempo, convenient for effects perfectly locked in the groove.
Independent left/right shifting for spatial effects
A strong point of HertzRider 2 is the ability to apply independent frequency shifting on the left and right channels. This enables creating wider stereo, intentional imbalances, or sensations of rotation and depth without stacking multiple instances. On effect buses, ambiances, or synths, this approach quickly delivers a spacious and immersive result.
Envelope Follower, sidechain, and dynamic control
To go beyond a static effect, PSP HertzRider 2 integrates an Envelope Follower with sidechain. The processing can thus react to the dynamics of the source or to an external source via sidechain, ideal for "animating" a sound in rhythm with a kick, voice, or percussion. The SideChain Bar facilitates adjustment with a smooth mix between internal and external sources, allowing precise control over how the plug-in follows the signal's energy.
Expanded presets and quick learning curve
HertzRider 2 includes more presets to quickly explore sonic directions: stereo widening, tempo modulation, aggressive textures, subtle movement effects. It's an excellent starting point to understand the frequency shifter's behavior, then refine your settings according to the context (inserts, effect buses, sound design, post-production).

Questions frequently asked
Can PSP HertzRider 2 alter the pitch of a snare drum or metallic percussion?
Frequency shifting can move resonances of inharmonic sounds such as a snare drum, foley, or hits. It can tighten a tone or direct a resonance toward a more musical range.
Can the LFO sync to the project tempo?
The sync LFO mode aligns modulation to note values defined by the host tempo. This allows spectral sweeps or rhythmic variations to follow the arrangement.
How to widen stereo image using a frequency shifter?
Independent frequency shifts can be applied to left and right channels. This setup creates width, a sense of rotation, or greater depth without increasing plugin instances.
Is sidechain available on HertzRider 2?
The Envelope Follower includes a sidechain enabling the effect to react to an external source, such as a kick or vocal. The SideChain Bar controls the blend between internal and external sources. Frequency shifting movements can thus follow the dynamics of the chosen signal.
What are the macOS and Windows compatibilities of the plugin?
Supported compatibility covers OS X/macOS 10.10 up to macOS 12.01 Monterey, as well as Windows 7 through Windows 11.
