What PSP McQ Is For
PSP McQ is an equalization plug-in designed to bring a "console"-style sound to your productions while maintaining the flexibility needed for modern workflows. It can be used both for correction and enhancement: cleaning a take with filters, adding presence to a vocal, giving punch to a snare, rounding a bass, or opening up the high end of overheads-all with a sonic signature inspired by legendary console equalizers. Its strength lies in enabling fine, musical adjustments, especially useful when you want to make each element stand out and create better clarity in the mix.
Main Features
Console equalization and curve options
Inspired by various classic console equalizers, PSP McQ captures the spirit of hardware EQs: bands designed to work quickly and effectively, with natural musicality. To go further, the plug-in offers filter shape options that expand its possibilities, notably through alternative behaviors on the extreme bands. This allows you to move from simple "sweetening" to more precise sculpting while maintaining a coherent and pleasant coloration.
Cleaning filters and slope control
The adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters allow quick control of unnecessary energy (rumble, sibilance, room noise, overly harsh high frequencies). PSP McQ also adds steepness (resonance) control for shelving filters, useful for choosing between a smooth transition and a more pronounced curve capable of emphasizing a "pivot point" in the low or high frequencies.
Midrange control for mix separation
The mid bands offer three nominal Q values to adapt the bandwidth to the goal: more surgical correction, more targeted emphasis, or broader, more organic shaping. Another key point is the musical behavior of bell filters, with Q factors that follow gain on the mids: when boosting or cutting more, the response becomes more relevant to remain effective without sounding artificial. The result is an EQ particularly comfortable for "placing" instruments, avoiding frequency masking, and improving overall definition.
SAT(uration) on output: safety and character
PSP McQ includes a second-generation SAT(uration) option located in the output section. It serves both as protection against digital clipping (within the plug-in or on the next stage of your chain, software or hardware) and as a coloring tool to thicken and smooth pushed signals. Positioned after the output level control in the internal chain, it allows logical drive dosing, with a ceiling set slightly below 0 dBFS to maintain a safety margin.

Questions frequently asked
Is the PSP Audioware MCQ compatible with Mac and Windows?
Mac compatibility starts with Mac OS X 10.5, while Windows is supported in 32 or 64-bit versions under XP Service Pack 2, Vista, and 7.
Are the high-pass and low-pass filters adjustable?
Adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters are available to reduce rumble, room noise, or harsh high-frequency content. The shelving filters feature a steepness (resonance) control to modify the transition slope.
How many Q settings are available on the mid bands?
Three nominal Q values are provided on the mid bands. The bell filters track the Q factor based on the applied gain to adjust the bandwidth during boosts and cuts.
Does the output saturation protect against clipping?
The output section includes second-generation SAT saturation designed to limit digital clipping while adding soft saturation. Positioned after the output level control, it uses a ceiling slightly below 0 dBFS.
Can this equalizer be used to process vocals or bass?
This equalizer can add presence to vocals, round out bass, or enhance the punch of a snare drum. Its bands and filters meet the needs of frequency correction as well as sound shaping.
