What PSP RetroQ Is For

PSP RetroQ is an equalizer plug-in designed for sweetening and overall balancing of a signal, with a more "musical" than surgical approach. It is particularly suited for mixing uses on groups (drums, guitars, stacked vocals, effects buses) and on the mix bus, as well as for overall processing in pre-mastering when aiming to improve tonal balance without hardening the sound.

Thanks to its very controlled phase, RetroQ is suitable for delicate corrections that need to remain transparent and stable in the stereo image. It is an excellent choice when you want "better" rather than "more": a cleaner low end, silkier highs, mids that sit naturally in the mix, without the impression of forced equalization.

Main Features

An EQ with a smooth and naturally musical sonic character

PSP RetroQ emphasizes equalization that respects the sound material. Its rendering is designed to remain fluid and pleasant, making it relevant on rich sources (pianos, synths, guitars, overheads) as well as on full mixes. The goal is to achieve audible improvements while avoiding typical artifacts of aggressive equalization.

Shelf filters inspired by VintageWarmer

The shelf-type filters rely on the well-known approach of VintageWarmer filters. The result: bass and treble corrections that maintain a sense of roundness and controlled brightness, ideal for adding breadth to a bus without making the mix harder or thinner. This "studio" coloration is particularly effective when you want to reinforce a musical intention rather than sculpt with a scalpel.

Dedicated mid filter, designed within the same internal architecture

In addition to the shelves, RetroQ offers a mid filter based on the same internal architecture. It facilitates adjustments of presence, density, or openness in the center of the spectrum, with behavior designed to remain pleasant even at moderate settings. This is a key asset for working on intelligibility and the sensation of a "breathing mix," without shifting toward an analytical rendering.

Adjustable high-pass for a clean and stable low end

The adjustable high-pass filter completes the set to transform RetroQ into a coherent "program" equalizer. It allows removing unwanted frequencies (rumble, infra, proximity excess) and cleaning the low end before applying any musical boost. On a mix or group, this step helps gain definition and headroom while maintaining a controlled foundation.

Optimized for buses, groups, and full mixes

PSP RetroQ has been optimized for use on groups and mixes, where stability, musicality, and phase management are particularly important. However, it remains perfectly comfortable on individual tracks whenever you seek a "finishing" type equalization in your overall processing chain, for example after light compression or before subtle saturation.
