A Compact Chassis in the Workhorse Ecosystem: Radial Modularity in a 6-Slot Format

The SixPack fits within Radial's Workhorse approach: offering a modular 500 format rack designed for everyday studio use, with robust construction and easy integration into modern setups. Its 6-slot format makes it a particularly relevant choice for creating a custom console channel strip, a stereo processor pair, or a complete tracking chain (preamp, EQ, compressor, saturation) without relying on a bulkier rack.

The metal chassis design targets both durability in work environments and electrical reliability: improved protection against stray magnetic fields, and architecture designed to prevent a faulty module from disturbing others. The result is a 500 format "lunchbox" that is easy to transport while maintaining a clearly studio-oriented philosophy.

Who Is It For and What Studio Uses?

The Radial Workhorse SixPack is aimed at sound engineers, producers, demanding home-studiers, and recording studios who want to evolve their audio chain as needs change: adding a different preamp for vocals, dedicating two slots to stereo bus processing, or building a complete tracking chain per instrument.

Thanks to its XLR and TRS jack I/O, the SixPack facilitates patching: use as a "mult", inserting processors, or quick cabling between modules to create custom processors. Integration via D-Sub 25 also simplifies connection to an audio interface or patchbay, for a cleaner and faster daily workflow.

A Power Supply Designed for Silence and Current Reserve

To reduce induced noise, the SixPack uses an external power supply, connected to the chassis via a 5-pin XLR connector. This approach limits interference near sensitive audio stages and helps preserve dynamics, especially when using high-gain modules.

Another key point: current capacity. With 1.6 Amps shared and an average exceeding 265 milliamps per slot, the SixPack handles particularly power-hungry modules comfortably, including some tube designs. This is a real advantage in a 500 system: you can build your rack to your preferences without quickly being limited by power supply.

Connectivity and Routing: From Simple Patch to Advanced Chains

The rear panel offers 6 individual XLR inputs/outputs, doubled by their parallel TRS jack equivalents. This dual connectivity is ideal for adapting the SixPack to your environment (balanced XLR wiring, TRS patching, or combined use), while facilitating internal chaining between modules.

A D-Sub 25 connector enables efficient integration with a digital audio workstation via your audio interface, patchbay, or snake. On the front, two XLR inputs provide a practical solution to route additional channels to the D-Sub inputs or to inputs 1 and 4, saving time during mic setups and configuration changes.

"Feed" and "Link" Functions

The "feed" switch allows direct routing of one module's output to the adjacent module, handy for quickly chaining two processors without external cabling. The "link" switch simplifies pairing two modules for stereo use, a plus for bus processing, stereo synths, or stereo miking (overheads, piano, room).

The Omniport: A TRS Jack That Extends Possibilities

The Omniport is a dedicated TRS jack that can add functionalities depending on the installed module's scope: an additional connection point that enhances flexibility for compatible modules and opens the door to more creative routings within a 500 format chain.

Designed to Move: Flat Use, Transport, and Integration Options

The SixPack can be placed flat on a work surface for direct access to controls or easily moved thanks to its side handle, convenient in live rooms or booths. Optional side panels allow integration into studio furniture or mounting in a 19-inch rack, depending on the desired ergonomics.
