What is MIDI-Player-Rack for?
MIDI-Player-Rack is a Rack Extension for Reason designed to transform simple chords, sustained notes, or MIDI patterns into sophisticated arpeggiated sequences. Its "Anchor + Movement" principle allows maintaining a stable harmonic base while adding rhythmic and melodic ornaments, perfect for producing electro, pop, techno, synthwave, film music, or ambient textures. Whether you are looking for steady ostinatos, trills, syncopated patterns, or more random variations, this module provides a fast workflow to go from idea to a playable and mixable sequence.
Main features
Two complementary musical layers: Anchor and Movement
The core of the module is based on two separate elements. Anchor defines, step by step, stable chord notes that serve as the backbone of your arpeggio. Movement then enriches this base by adding an ornamental, more dynamic movement figure to give depth to the arrangement without losing harmonic control.
Built-in patterns and fine density control
With over 40 predefined Movement patterns, you have an immediate palette to vary the energy from a verse to a chorus or to switch from a minimal groove to a busier sequence. The Density parameter adjusts the frequency of added Movement sounds, facilitating adaptation of the pattern to the mix space and desired rhythmic complexity.
Step modifiers for programming expressive variations
To avoid overly linear loops, MIDI-Player-Rack includes dedicated step modifiers: Repeat to create repetitions, Mute for breaths, Octave to expand the range, and Random to introduce an element of unpredictability. These tools allow building evolving movements, very effective for intros, breaks, and build-ups.
Groove, synchronization, and control within the Rack
The module offers a global Swing as well as Timing-Sync to lock the sequence to the project tempo. The full integration into Reason Rack ensures smooth use within your combinators and routings. The CV Note and Gate inputs/outputs open modulation and interaction possibilities with other Rack devices, while the module remains controllable via a MIDI controller for more performative playing.
