Complex-1 is designed for modular sound creation in Reason: massive basses, expressive leads, synthetic percussion, drones, animated effects, evolving ambiances, and cinematic sound design. Its appeal is twofold: on one hand, it allows you to approach modular synthesis with a secure workflow (you can experiment without "breaking" your patch and easily undo changes), and on the other, it integrates as a true production instrument for everyday use, capable of playable and real-time controllable sounds. Whether you produce electro, techno, IDM, ambient, pop, or film music, Complex-1 delivers a sonic signature that is at once organic, precise, and surprisingly versatile.

Main Features

Two synthesis philosophies, one rack

Complex-1 blends approaches from different design schools: a "West Coast" side focused on timbre and dynamics, and a more "classic" side oriented around oscillators and filtering. Practically, you can switch from a round and stable sound to more edgy, metallic, or percussive textures simply by changing how you patch and modulate the internal modules.

Free patching: audio and modulation without constraints

The core of Complex-1 is its freely routable signal and modulation path. You connect whatever you want, wherever you want: pitch modulation, waveform shaping, filter cutoff, dynamics, or sending audio into unexpected paths to achieve more "alive" behaviors. Thanks to CV and audio connectivity with the rest of the Reason Rack, Complex-1 also becomes a modulation hub to animate other instruments and effects, or conversely receive external modulations to enrich your patch.

Modules designed for playability and sound design

Complex-1 is not limited to experimental use. Between envelopes, LFOs, scaling modules, mixers, and "slew/lag" modules, you have everything needed to stabilize a patch, make it musical, and ensure it responds properly to the keyboard. You can also push sound design further via built-in processing (shaping, reverb, echo, comb delay) and monitor your signal with an oscilloscope, useful for understanding what your modulations are actually doing.

Built-in sequencer and quantization

To create immediately inspiring patterns, Complex-1 includes a sequencer with a note quantizer. Ideal for generating melodic lines, rhythmic patterns, or modulated sequences that stay "in key," while preserving the unpredictable and creative character of a modular environment.

Ready to use thanks to patches

If the modular world seems intimidating, the over 200 included patches serve as a starting point: load a sound, identify the key cables, then modify one modulation at a time. This is an excellent method to learn and a quick way to get thick basses, sharp leads, or moving textures without starting from scratch.
