What Double Pitch-Shifter Is For
Double Pitch-Shifter is a pitch-shifting effect designed for production and sound design within the Reason Rack. It is used both to create harmonies (thirds, fifths, octaves), doublings that thicken a vocal or lead, and to generate radical textures for electro, pop, hip-hop, film music, or experimental genres. Thanks to its two units, you can layer two different transpositions, position them in the stereo field, and precisely control the processed signal to go from subtle correction to a fully intentional effect.
Main Features
Two pitch engines for advanced harmonizations
Shifter 1 and Shifter 2 operate independently, with a range of +/- 12 octaves and a separate Wet/Dry mix for each unit. This approach allows you to quickly build complex stacks (for example, an octave below plus a fifth above), or create a very subtle "ghost" double behind a main take.
Formant preservation or vocoder character
Depending on the desired result, you can choose between formant preservation (more natural on vocals and melodic instruments) or vocoder-style transposition (more characterful, robotic, and ideal for creative effects). This flexibility helps keep things musical in a pop mix while retaining the option to switch to more aggressive tones for sound design.
Smoothing and stereo modes to control perception
The smoothing control reduces artifacts and better manages how the transposition reacts during rapid changes. On the stereo imaging side, you have several modes: mono, stereo linked (for coherent left/right behavior), and ping-pong across the stereo field, useful for adding movement to a synth line, pad, or vocal ad-lib.
Integrated EQ, CV, and modular rack integration
An integrated EQ allows you to fine-tune the output so the pitched signal fits cleanly into the mix (useful for taming harsh highs or refocusing an overpowering low end). For Reason users focused on modulation, the CV inputs dedicated to pitch offset, mix, and smoothing open the door to organic automations: envelopes, LFOs, step sequencers, or performance macros. The rear audio connections (input/output) also facilitate integration into a more modular setup within the Reason Rack.

Questions frequently asked
Does Reason Studios Polar Dual Pitch Shifter work with my version of Reason?
Compatibility is ensured from Reason 6.5 onwards. The software runs on Windows 10 64-bit or later, and on macOS 10.12 64-bit or later.
What is the available pitch shifting range?
Each of the two shifters covers a range from -12 to +12 semitones. Shifter 1 and 2 are independently adjustable, with a dedicated Wet/Dry mix control.
Is it possible to maintain a natural sound on pitched vocals?
Two modes are available: formant preservation or vocoder-style pitch shifting. The first keeps more of the vocal character, while the second adds a robotic coloration.
What stereo modes does this pitch effect offer?
The processing can operate in mono, stereo linked, or ping-pong mode within the stereo field. A smoothing control reduces artifacts during pitch changes.
Does the Polar Dual Pitch Shifter accept CV modulation within Reason Rack?
CV inputs are provided for pitch shift, mix, and smoothing. A rear audio input and output allow integration into Reason Rack's modular routing. Online activation requires an internet connection and permits simultaneous authorizations.
