Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range
The Emperor series has established itself as a standard for drummers seeking more control and durability than a single-ply head, without resulting in an overly muffled sound. In smooth white finish, it serves as an alternative to the coated version, offering a quicker feel and a naturally focused tone.
Who This Drumhead Is For
This drumhead is aimed at beginner to advanced drummers looking for a robust and easy-to-tune head. It is well suited for styles requiring punch and controlled sustain: rock, pop, funk, gospel, fusion, and amplified live settings.
Features and Innovations
The 2-ply construction provides better impact resistance and reduces unwanted overtones, making it easier to position the tom in the mix. On snare drum, it can deliver a denser and drier sound than a standard head, useful for handling rimshots and maintaining presence.
Sound Characteristics
The double ply enhances low-mids and stabilizes the attack: resulting in a more focused sound, with shorter sustain and better-controlled overtones. The smooth white finish maintains good definition while adding a slight warmth in the high frequencies, appreciated for round toms and a snare drum with a strong character.
