A RODE Tube Microphone Designed to Recapture the Spirit of the Great Classics

The RODE K2 follows the tradition of tube microphones that marked the golden age of the studio, with a more flexible and contemporary approach. Its 1-inch dual diaphragm capsule treated with gold cathode sputtering aims for a rich and detailed sound while offering a modern usage range. The idea is simple: to regain the depth and presence typical of legendary microphones without sacrificing the versatility required for today's productions.

Who and What the K2 Is Made For

The K2 is an excellent choice for demanding home studios as well as professional studios seeking a main microphone capable of covering many situations. On vocals, it provides a sense of density and proximity, useful for pushing a voice forward in the mix. On instruments, it performs well on acoustic guitar, strings, brass, piano, percussion, and even on high-level sources thanks to its high maximum SPL.

It also excels in capturing room ambiance: in omnidirectional or figure-8 mode, you can capture the air and depth of a space with a larger image, giving a natural dimension to recordings.

Variable Polar Pattern: The Key to Its Studio Flexibility

From Placement to Character, Fine Control of the Capture

The continuously variable polar pattern is one of the K2's major assets. In cardioid, you focus the capture on the source while limiting the room, ideal for close-miking vocals or instruments. In omnidirectional, you get a more open response and a broader capture, useful for a less "close" vocal or to highlight room acoustics. In figure-8, you benefit from excellent side rejection, useful for isolating sources or working with depth.

Advanced Yet Accessible Recording Techniques

The figure-8 pattern allows for stereo and creative recording techniques: for example, capturing more textured ambiance or pairing with a second microphone for Mid-Side configurations when your workflow requires it. The fact that the polar pattern is continuously adjustable helps find the "exact point" between presence, width, and ambiance depending on the source, singer, and room.

Tubed Sound and Wide Headroom Before Saturation

The K2 combines tube aesthetics with performance suited to modern productions. Its ability to handle very high levels allows recording powerful sources while maintaining a clean signal, with a sense of dynamics and depth. It is a microphone that can serve as a centerpiece for vocals but also as a "character" microphone to add thickness to certain instruments while preserving defined highs and good clarity.
