A Modernized Classic in the Lineage of Great Microphones
Since 2016, the WA-87 has laid the foundation for an accessible great "large diaphragm" microphone. With the "revision 2," Warm Audio builds on years of expertise in vintage model recreation to refine every link: circuitry, transformer, mechanics, and internal acoustics. The goal is clear: to regain the grain, dynamics, and presence of the iconic 60s model, with current production reliability.
Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?
The WA-87 R2 is a versatile studio tool for lead and backing vocals, acoustic guitars, pianos, drum overheads, brass instruments, or ambient recording. The three polar patterns allow adapting the capture to the room and source: cardioid to focus vocals, omni for a natural room image, figure-8 for duets, Mid/Side recording, or side rejection on noisy sources.
Features and Innovations of Revision 2
Circuitry and Premium Components
The heart of the WA-87 R2 remains a discrete circuit inspired by the 1960s, refined with a Fairchild NOS transistor and high-end Wima/Nichicon capacitors. The new-generation custom Cinemag USA output transformer delivers a smoother frequency response and slightly higher output level, ensuring better headroom and low noise floor.
Capsule and Sonic Signature
Its WA-87-B-50V capsule, faithful to the "K87" architecture with 4-wire termination, reproduces the present midrange and silky highs sought after in vocal and acoustic recordings. The redesigned grille frees more space around the capsule for more natural transient response and openness.
Recording Ergonomics
The -10 dB pad protects against loud sources (overheads, brass, amps), while the 80 Hz high-pass filter cleans up rumbles and mic stand vibrations. The new, wider, and sturdier brass body stabilizes the mic in suspension and ensures exemplary longevity in intensive studio use.

Can the WA-87 R2 handle very loud sources?
The -10 dB pad allows safe recording of drum overheads, brass, or amplifiers. The SPL level reaches 125 dB at 0.5% THD without the pad, and 132 dB with this attenuation margin.
What high-pass filter is built in?
An 80 Hz high-pass filter reduces rumble and vibrations transmitted through the mic stand.
What accessories are included with the microphone?
