What is Roland JUPITER-8 For?

The JUPITER-8 software synthesizer is designed to bring the character of a legendary polyphonic analog synth to your DAW, with a sound that is warm, clear, and "wide" in the mix. It excels on deep pads, punchy brass synth, vintage-style rising strings, stable basses, and expressive leads, whether in pop, synthwave, electro, house, techno, funk, ambient, or film scoring.

Thanks to its versatility, you can use it as a main instrument (composition, arrangement, sound design) or as a character layer to thicken a modern production. The addition of tempo sync and effects facilitates quick integration into a current workflow, without losing the "one knob per function" spirit that made the original machine famous.

Main Features

JUPITER-8 Architecture: Power and Musicality

Each voice features two stable VCOs with multiple waveforms, options for cross modulation and sync to shift from silky sounds to more biting textures. The filters strongly contribute to the sonic signature: a selectable low-pass VCF and a HPF to sculpt the low end, allowing precise placement of the synth in the mix.

Two envelopes (ENV-1 and ENV-2) shape attack, sustain, and release with a very "instrument-like" response. The arpeggiator completes the setup to create instant rhythmic sequences, ideal for 1980s-style lines, modern ostinatos, or synchronized bass patterns.

Contemporary Additions Serving Playability

This software version brings features expected in current production: velocity for more expressive playing, extended oscillator range, integrated effects section, and an enhanced arpeggiator. The LFO, arpeggiator, and effects can be tempo-synchronized to lock your modulations and repeats to your project grid.

The resizable high-definition interface makes sound design comfortable whether working on a compact screen or in a studio setup. Compatibility with VST3, AU, and AAX ensures smooth integration into most production environments.

Circuit Mod and Condition: From "New" to "Worn"

Customization is part of the myth: on vintage synths, internal settings could subtly alter component behavior. Here, Circuit Mod lets you explore character variations via a macro control, while Condition simulates the impact of age and wear. The result: you move from a precise and bright JUPITER-8 to a more unpredictable machine, with a "tour-worn" charm very inspiring for animated pads, rough unisons, or edgier leads.

Sound Browser and SYSTEM-8 Integration

The browser facilitates exploration of presets and your creations: sorting, favorites, notes, and quick access to useful controls. For SYSTEM-8 users, integration is designed for stage and studio: you can adapt the plug-in's front panel to the keyboard's ergonomics or use the PLUG-OUT function to play a standalone JUPITER-8 directly from the SYSTEM-8.
