Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
After popularizing the double-layer mesh head on V-Drums, Roland extends this concept to acoustic drums with the PowerPly range, manufactured by REMO Inc. The goal is clear: to enable silent playing while retaining the look, feel, and ergonomics of a traditional drum set, with the possibility to trigger a V-Drums module via sensors.
Who This Drum/Instrument Is For
The PowerPly MH2 is aimed at beginner to advanced drummers who want to practice longer, more often, and more quietly. It suits all styles requiring precision and control (pop, rock, funk, metal), especially for metronome work, endurance, and timing.
Features and Innovations
The double-layer construction aims for better tuning stability and increased durability, particularly appreciated on the snare and bass drum. Used with RT-30 sensors, the head becomes an effective hybrid solution: discreet playing, reliable triggering, and access to multiple sounds without changing instruments.
Sound Characteristics
A mesh head does not seek projection: it significantly reduces sound level and limits overtones, while offering a rebound close to a traditional head depending on the chosen tension. The result: less noise in the room but a coherent playing feel to preserve technique, accents, and dynamic control.
