Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
For years, hybrid drums have established themselves both on stage and in the studio: they allow preserving the dynamics of an acoustic kit while adding the impact, consistency, and variety of electronic sounds. The Roland TM-1 fits this logic with a deliberately minimalist and efficient approach: a trigger module in pedal format, designed to easily integrate into any set and make sound triggering accessible without complex setup. Placed on the floor like an effect, it targets drummers who want to get straight to the point while maintaining real creative freedom thanks to editing and sample import.
Who This Module Is For
The TM-1 is aimed at beginner to intermediate drummers who want to discover the power of a hybrid kit without getting lost in menus, as well as advanced musicians seeking a compact tool to complement an acoustic set. It suits all styles, from Metal (kick drum attack and definition, double pedal coherence) to electronic music (percussions, loops, and textures), including pop, rock, and worship where instant and reliable sound changes are essential.

Questions frequently asked
How many pads can be connected to the Roland TM-1?
Two single-sensor pads can be connected, or one dual-sensor pad via the trigger inputs.
Is the module compatible with Roland RT triggers?
The trigger inputs support Roland RT acoustic drum sensors as well as a wide range of Roland pads. Sensitivity, pitch, decay, and level parameters can be adjusted directly on the front panel for each input.
Can custom samples be imported into the TM-1?
The TM-1 Editor application allows the import of personal samples lasting about 6 seconds each. More than 150 additional sounds are available through this application. On Windows, compatible files are WAVs at 44.1 kHz and 16 or 24 bits.
How to separate the two triggers on the audio output?
The 6.35 mm stereo jack output can be set to "INDIVIDUAL" mode to send TRIG1 to the left channel and TRIG2 to the right channel. A 6.35 mm stereo headphone output is also provided.
Can the Roland TM-1 control a virtual instrument via MIDI?
Via the USB type B port, the module acts as a Trigger-to-MIDI converter with a computer. Strikes can thus control virtual instruments and be recorded as MIDI tracks.
