A CV-4 Focused on Sonic Freedom
The Schecter CV-4 Ivory is a four-string electric bass that combines an understated appearance with particularly flexible electronics. Its flat-top body, maple key and offset inlays give it a clean visual identity without unnecessary embellishment. The main appeal of this configuration lies in its two J-Buckers: their various operating modes allow you to change the instrument’s character without changing basses.
The neck is bolted to the body with six screws and reinforced with carbon fibre. This construction supports a practical approach to the instrument, also evident in the neck adjustment access located at the heel. The CV-4 therefore prioritises practical playing and setup options over unnecessarily complicated presentation.
For Bassists Moving from Groove to More Powerful Lines
This bass is particularly suited to intermediate and advanced players who want to refine their sound according to the song. A motivated beginner can also find it to be an instrument that grows with them, provided they take the time to explore the pickup switching options. The Thin C profile, which increases in thickness from 20 to 23 mm, offers an unobtrusive feel for moving around the neck and changing positions.
The 34-inch / 863 mm scale remains a familiar format for a four-string bass. The 22 frets and 10-inch / 254 mm radius work equally well for accompaniment lines and melodic passages. Rock, funk, pop or more powerful styles: the switching options allow you to adapt the attack and sonic density, whether playing fingerstyle or with a pick.
Two J-Buckers for Varying Attack, Body and Definition
The two Schecter Diamond J-Buckers are at the heart of this CV-4’s sonic character. The neck pickup lets you seek greater warmth and fullness, while the bridge pickup provides a more precise presentation of the attack. The 3-way selector provides access to the various pickup selections, with one volume and one tone control for adjusting the overall level and treble presence.
The 3-way series, split and parallel switches significantly expand this tonal palette. Series mode tends to produce a denser, more powerful sound; split mode delivers a more open, single-coil-style texture; parallel mode generally retains a clearer and more airy response. These variations are useful for moving from a line that stands out clearly in the mix to a less prominent accompaniment, without relying solely on the amplifier’s EQ.
The ash body and maple neck-and-key assembly support a generally direct and defined response. The result also depends on the setup, amplification and touch: here, the combination of woods and pickups primarily provides a consistent foundation for working on articulation. The S-Tek bridge contributes to string stability and adjustment, while the six-point bolted construction ensures a solid mechanical connection between the neck and body.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To replace the strings while retaining the specified configuration, choose the D'Addario NYXL45100SL four-string Super Long set, with 45-65-80-100 gauges. It matches the set specified for this bass. Keeping these gauges will provide a similar feel, although checking the tuning, action and neck relief after replacement is still recommended.
