Henri SELMER Paris reconnects with one of its historical origins by relaunching reed manufacturing, the founder Henri Selmer's first activity since 1885. Generations of musicians have known Selmer reeds for their reliability and consistency, and this new range continues the current dynamism of the house with its clarinets, saxophones, and mouthpieces. The goal is clear: to offer reeds that are both consistent, musical, and crafted with genuine manufacturing care.

For which musician and styles?

With their tighter calibration and refined acoustic profile, these reeds are aimed both at intermediate clarinetists looking to save time choosing reeds, and at advanced and professional musicians seeking a reliable response daily. They are particularly suitable for contexts where the bass clarinet must remain stable and expressive: classical, wind orchestra, chamber music, but also jazz and contemporary music, where roundness and projection are valuable.

Sound and design

The cane (Arundo donax) selected from the South of France provides a very high-quality base, with a fibrous structure promoting good longevity and a consistent response. The new profile aims for a sound that is both dense and warm, with smooth emission and a feeling of control in dynamics. The laser marking placed on the bark (and not on the table, the vibration zone) helps preserve the reed's natural vibratory behavior while making the strength immediately readable.

To optimize lifespan and playing consistency, a rigid reed case (if you carry your reeds outside their box) and a reed humidifier can help maintain stable humidity. A bass clarinet swab also helps limit residual moisture in the mouthpiece and neck, often responsible for response variations.
