Founded in 1885, the house of Henri SELMER Paris first made its mark by manufacturing reeds and mouthpieces before becoming one of the major references in the saxophone world. The Soloist fits into this lineage: an iconic model directly inspired by mouthpieces produced in the 1950s. Today, Selmer combines its historic expertise with digital machining processes in its Mantes-la-Ville workshops to achieve dimensional stability and manufacturing consistency highly appreciated by demanding musicians.

The SOLOIST C** mouthpiece is aimed at saxophonists seeking a balance between precision, playing comfort, and timbral richness. It is particularly suitable for intermediate to advanced (and professional) players who want a mouthpiece capable of covering a wide repertoire: classical (clean, centered sound, clear articulation), as well as jazz and contemporary music when exploiting its modulation capacity. As always, mouthpiece choice remains personal: embouchure, morphology, and reed type strongly influence feel and response.

Sound and design

The Soloist is renowned for a very centered sound, with marked homogeneity across all registers. Its "horseshoe" chamber contributes to a warm output while maintaining excellent definition, ideal for working on intonation and attack. The C** opening (2.00 mm) and the 23 mm table promote stable emission and fine control, especially in the low register, while retaining a solid response in the high and altissimo registers. The result: an expressive, precise mouthpiece that remains reliable when shifting from soft playing to more projected dynamics.

This mouthpiece comes with a mouthpiece patch. Since the ligature and mouthpiece cap are not included, it is recommended to choose a ligature/cap set adapted to the mouthpiece size to ensure consistent tightening, good reed stability, and effective protection during transport.
