A SELMER Paris classic, blending heritage and high-precision manufacturing

Since 1885, Henri SELMER Paris has built a worldwide reputation starting with the manufacture of reeds and mouthpieces, before becoming an essential reference for saxophonists. This design excellence has been passed down through generations, giving rise to iconic models.

In recent years, the integration of CNC machining centers in SELMER's factories in Mantes-la-Ville has enabled a particularly high level of precision and consistency. The Soloist mouthpiece perfectly illustrates this philosophy: preserving the spirit of a historic model while ensuring production stability and consistent performance from one piece to another.

Within the SELMER Paris range, mouthpieces are designed to cover a variety of sound aesthetics. Since the choice of a mouthpiece remains very personal, the Soloist series aims for a rare balance: a marked identity, yet flexible enough to adapt to your morphology, embouchure, and articulation style.

For which saxophonist

The Henri SELMER Paris Soloist is intended for intermediate to advanced saxophonists seeking an expressive and reliable mouthpiece, as well as demanding musicians wanting to recapture a "vintage" feel with modern manufacturing. Its stable response and controlled intonation also make it an excellent choice for daily practice: long tones, intonation, register homogeneity, and dynamic control.

In terms of styles, it naturally sits between classical and jazz. It suits repertoires requiring a structured and focused sound (classical music, wind orchestra, refined popular music), while still allowing the color to be broadened and the intention to be emphasized on more jazz phrasing.

Sound and design

The Soloist is known for a very centered sound, both homogeneous and warm, with a clean projection that maintains control across all dynamics. The feeling of stability is particularly appreciated when moving from low to high registers: the instrument remains "grounded," and the sound production stays coherent, even when you change color or volume.

Its "horseshoe" chamber contributes to this signature: precise rendering, clear articulation, and the ability to modulate without losing the sound's thread. The attack in the low register is noted as particularly precise, while intonation remains balanced in the high and altissimo registers, helping to secure exposed passages and sustained phrase endings.

With a D opening of 2.10 mm and a 23 mm table length, this mouthpiece offers a compromise focused on control and consistency. It allows fine work on the air column, timbre density, and flexibility, while maintaining a stable response across dynamics, from pianissimo to fortissimo.

Recommended compatible accessories

This mouthpiece comes with a mouthpiece patch. Since the ligature and mouthpiece cap are not included, be sure to choose models strictly compatible with the exact shape and dimensions of your mouthpiece and saxophone.
