An "Alt.Metal" Variation in the Spirit of Blackouts
Inspired by the roar and sonic density of modern alternative metal, the Alt.Metal Blackouts build on the massive foundation of the original Blackouts while refining low-end definition and overall clarity. The result is a more controlled response in low tunings, with a clearer high end-ideal for maintaining bite without harshness.
Who and Which Styles?
This set is designed for 7-string guitarists who play heavy rhythms, syncopated riffs, and high gain levels while wanting to preserve true note-to-note articulation. It excels in alternative metal, modern metal, djent, hardcore, and any situation where the low end needs to stay tight and intelligible, even with heavy saturation.
Two Complementary Pickups: Bridge Attack, Neck Clarity
The Alt.Metal Bridge pickup retains the energy and power of the Blackouts, emphasizing the percussive aspect of palm mutes: the attack cuts through, lows stay clean, and harmonics remain pronounced. The Alt.Metal Neck pickup offers a very refined clean tone, then transforms into a lead sound with aggressive mids and enhanced sustain when the gain is increased.
Regarding mounting, this set is offered in Passive Mount (classic humbucker frame format). If your guitar is already equipped with active pickups with quick connectors, installation can be simplified: just unplug and plug in. Seymour Duncan also offers these models in 6-string versions (passive mount) and in soapbar format for 7 strings (passive and active mount depending on the guitar).

Questions frequently asked
Is this set compatible with a 7-string guitar with standard humbucker cavities?
This set is designed for 7-string guitars and features a Passive Mount installation, intended for classic humbucker frames.
What sound do the Blackouts Alt.Metal pickups produce in lower tunings?
Thanks to the ceramic magnets, the low end remains better controlled in lower tunings. Palm mutes near the bridge gain attack, while harmonics retain definition.
Is the replacement simple on a guitar already equipped with active pickups?
Installation can be simplified on a guitar already equipped with active pickups that use quick connectors. Replacement then involves unplugging and replugging the connectors. A battery clip is provided for the active electronics.
What accessories are included with the Seymour Duncan Alt.Metal Blackouts 7-string set?
The kit includes potentiometers, a capacitor, an output jack, and the necessary wiring.
What is the tonal difference between the neck pickup and the bridge pickup?
At the bridge, the pickup favors percussive rhythms and massive crunch. At the neck, it delivers a clear clean tone, with more aggressive mids and increased sustain at high gain.
