From Custom Shop to Standard Catalog: The Same Idea, More Accessible
Designed to capture the signature sound of a talented guitarist and singer, a great Strat enthusiast and multiple Grammy Award winner, the Scooped Strat set is inspired by 50s-style pickups. Long reserved for the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop, it now joins the standard catalog, offering shorter lead times and easier access to this highly sought-after voicing.
For Which Guitarists and Styles?
This kit is aimed at musicians who want a Strat that sits more "open" in the mix: less compression, more definition, and a range that naturally moves from blues to rock, up to modern pop/rock textures. In clean tone, you get sharp attacks and notes that remain clear within chords. In crunch, the grain stays articulated, with a solid low end and a well-defined high spectrum.
Design and Sonic Character
The core of the sound comes from a deliberately underwound coil combined with Alnico V magnets. Seymour Duncan also worked on slightly raised pole pieces and specific calibration to achieve this characteristic scooped midrange while maintaining the essential balance on a Strat (intermediate positions, back-and-forth picking attacks, volume knob nuances). The result: a set responsive to touch, ideal for expressive blues licks, punchy rhythms, and leads that breathe.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Seymour Duncan Scooped Stratocaster kit fit a Stratocaster?
This kit includes three passive single-coil pickups designed for Strat-type guitars, finished in white.
What tone do the Scooped Strat pickups deliver?
The underwound coils and Alnico V magnets produce a characteristic mid scoop. Clean sounds retain sharp attack, while crunch tones remain articulate with a solid low end.
What are the resistances of the three pickups in the set?
The neck position measures 6.13 kΩ, the middle position 6.37 kΩ, and the bridge position 7.23 kΩ. The bridge pickup is therefore calibrated with higher resistance than the two other positions.
Are these pickups suitable for blues and rock?
The voiced tone targets blues and rock styles. The slightly raised pole pieces and specific calibration favor snapping rhythms as well as expressive leads.
Are the intermediate Strat positions still usable with this set?
The setâs balance has been designed to preserve the characteristic intermediate Strat positions. The response to the volume pot and to back-and-forth picking attack is also part of its design.
