A flagship model from the Shure Beta series, designed for professional use

The Shure Beta 87C is part of the Shure Beta series, a family known for offering performance-oriented microphones intended for professional applications and demanding environments. Within this range, the Beta 87C stands out for its "voice" approach: detailed reproduction, extended frequency response, and a signature that helps vocals find their place without forcing. There is also a supercardioid variant, the Beta 87A, but the Beta 87C favors a cardioid pattern particularly appreciated for its simple and effective management on stage.

Who is it for and what are its uses? A vocal mic comfortable both live and in the studio

The Beta 87C is aimed at singers who want a microphone capable of conveying intention: attack, articulation, controlled breath, and dynamic nuances. On stage, it is well suited for performances where the voice must remain clear within a band, while maintaining warmth and a controlled sense of proximity. In the studio, it is recommended whenever a high-quality vocal take is sought, whether for lead vocals, backing vocals, or overdubs requiring clarity and finesse.

Thanks to its cardioid pattern, it also helps artists working in complex "live" setups (monitors, backline, proximity to other sources) maintain a more focused vocal capture. The result: a cleaner, more consistent sound and often simpler processing (equalization, compression).

Performance-oriented design: presence, control, and reliability

Cardioid condenser capsule: precision and sensitivity

The Beta 87C is based on a condenser capsule, known for its sensitivity and ability to reproduce details. This design favors fine capture of harmonics and a fast transient response, useful for expressive vocals, sharp attacks, and softer passages. Its cardioid pattern helps isolate the vocals, allowing the voice to remain intelligible even in dense stage environments.

Integrated shock mount system: less handling noise

On stage, hand noise, microphone stand movements, and handling can quickly interfere with a performance. The Beta 87C integrates a shock mount system that significantly reduces these mechanical noises, resulting in a cleaner and more professional capture, especially during quiet passages or spoken introductions.

Slight bass roll-off: better control of proximity effect

The Beta 87C features a slight low-frequency attenuation, designed to limit the proximity effect. This helps avoid an overly "boomy" voice when singing close to the capsule and contributes to maintaining a more balanced tone that is easier to blend in the mix. This is a tangible advantage live, where the distance to the microphone often varies from song to song.

Phantom power: easy integration in modern setups

Like all condenser microphones, the Beta 87C requires phantom power. It naturally integrates with mixing consoles, preamps, and audio interfaces that provide this power, both live and in the studio. Once powered, it delivers stable capture and dynamics suited to contemporary vocals, from intimate registers to powerful performances.
