A Sharpened Evolution of the S Series: from the S-400 to the S-420
The Spira S-420 is a direct evolution of the S-400, with an even more "performance" oriented approach. The addition of a locking tremolo and locking tuners clearly targets guitarists who demand precision, sharp attacks, and reliable tuning, whether for live, studio, or long rehearsal sessions.
For Which Guitarist and Styles?
The S-420 is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists looking for a double cutaway electric with a fast feel. It excels in modern metal, heavy rock, hard rock, shred, and all contexts where tight riffs, palm mutes, and solos high up the neck are chained together. Its ergonomics and 24 frets also make it an excellent base for working on speed and precision.
The Sound
The combination of a torrefied poplar body and a torrefied Canadian maple neck promotes a fast response, with a well-defined attack and very clean sustain. The Ebony Tech fingerboard, combined with 24 jumbo frets and a 14" / 356 mm radius, enhances the sensation of speed and note clarity, particularly useful for alternate picking and bends. On the amplification side, the HH configuration and Spira Villain humbuckers (12k output, ceramic magnets) produce an aggressive and dense tone while maintaining good note separation when the gain is high. The 1 volume / 1 tone control setup goes straight to the essentials to stay effective on stage.
