The Paranormal Esquire Deluxe takes up the founding idea of the Esquire: focusing on the essentials. Fender adds a more "70s" approach, borrowing aesthetic codes from the Telecaster Deluxe and pushing the single pickup concept toward greater versatility. The result: an electric guitar with a strong character that maintains a direct feel while offering several tonal colors through an original selector device.

The sound

At the heart of this guitar, the Fender-Designed Wide Range humbucker (AlNiCo magnets) offers a dense sonic foundation, with full lows and a present midrange, perfect for riffs and powerful chords. The 3-position rotary switch opens three approaches: a finer, sharper texture in single-coil mode, a thicker and quieter response in humbucker mode, and a volume/tone bypass mode that sends a more direct signal, ideal for cutting through the mix or pushing an amp. The poplar body provides overall balance, while the maple neck and fingerboard enhance attack and clarity. Finally, the string-through-body bridge promotes good sustain and a pleasant tension feel under the fingers.

Recommended compatible accessories

To stay as close as possible to the original feel, a .009-.042 electric string set (nickel-plated steel) is recommended. A tuner (clip-on or pedal) is also a safe choice to take advantage of the stability offered by the vintage-style tuners.
