The essentials to know about the Sterling by Music Man JP60-MDR John Petrucci Signature "Mystic Dream" guitar

  • Accessible JP spirit: a John Petrucci signature inspired by the JP6, designed for speed and precision.

  • High-level playing comfort: 24 frets, slim neck, and easy access to the upper frets for technical licks and solos.

  • Powerful versatility: 2 Sterling humbuckers and a 3-position selector switch to switch from singing leads to tight rhythms.

  • Stability: locking tuners and Sterling modern tremolo for reliable tuning stability.

A striking signature in the Petrucci lineage

The JP60 is rooted in the DNA of the JP6, the model that started the collaboration between John Petrucci and Music Man. Sterling by Music Man adopts its ergonomics and "performance" approach to offer a coherent, fast, and reliable guitar in a more accessible version, without abandoning the visual codes appreciated by fans (custom inlays and markers inspired by the JP universe).

For which guitarists and styles?

Designed for intermediate to advanced guitarists who want a comfortable, responsive, and precise electric guitar, the JP60 shines when chaining riffs and leads effortlessly. It particularly excels in rock, metal, progressive, and fusion, while remaining credible with rounder tones thanks to its dual humbucker configuration and simple controls (volume and tone).

The sound

The Sterling humbucker duo (neck and bridge) delivers a dense sound with a good headroom and precise response, ideal for modern distortion as well as thicker cleans. The passive electronics maintain a direct and dynamic feel: you get clear attacks, good sustain, and excellent chord clarity. The basswood body provides overall balance (present mids, controlled lows), while the maple neck contributes to clarity and bite, useful for retaining definition in high-gain settings. With the 3-position selector switch, you quickly switch from the sharpness of the bridge pickup to the more singing character of the neck, with a useful middle position for full and articulated rhythms.
