A Classic Revisited in the Sterling by Music Man Range
The RAY34 follows the great tradition of basses with a strong character, popularized for their precision and impact in the mix. Within the Sterling by Music Man line, it retains the essential StingRay features: a large humbucker in the bridge position, active electronics, and ergonomics designed to withstand rehearsals and gigs. The result: a 4-string bass with a muscular temperament, designed to deliver a present, dynamic, and extremely clear sound.
For Which Bassist and Styles
This RAY34 primarily targets intermediate to advanced bassists who want a clear attack, quick response, and an instrument comfortable both live and in the studio. It excels in funk (precise slap), rock (biting mids), pop, and disco (tight groove), while remaining versatile enough to cover modern styles with pick or fingerstyle. The roasted maple bolt-on neck enhances the feeling of control and consistency, even during long sessions.
Sound
The Alnico humbucker positioned near the bridge delivers the typical blend of firm lows, projected mids, and sculpted highs, perfect for standing out in a dense mix. The active electronics with 3-band EQ allow quick tonal adjustments: more snap for slap, scooped mids for a modern, wide sound, or increased lows to thicken the rhythmic foundation without losing definition. The nyatoh body contributes to a warm response and comfortable sustain, while the 34" / 864 mm scale length and bridge enhance attack precision and note sustain.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain expected tension and response on this scale length, choose a long scale 34" / 864 mm bass string set, such as the Ernie Ball 2834 Super Slinky (the original strings reference). If you travel frequently, a hard case for long scale 34" / 864 mm electric bass can complement transport protection.
